LINDENWOOD — Barbara Arlene Detig, 87, passed away peacefully Tuesday, February 27, 2024 at her home in Lindenwood, Illinois.  Barb was born on May 23, 1936 to Enno and Ruth (Finan) Fischer in White Rock Township, IL.  On October 8, 1955, she married James A. Detig in Rochelle, IL.

Prior to retiring, Barb worked at Ogle County Mutual Insurance. After that, she worked at State Farm under Don Taylor and then for Terri Schaffer.

Barb enjoyed playing cards and was in several card clubs over the years.  She and Jim enjoyed going dancing on a regular basis for many years. More than anything, she enjoyed the time she spent with her children and grandchildren.  She was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Rochelle.

Barb is survived by her husband of 68 years, Jim of Lindenwood; four children: Michael Detig of Lindenwood, Nancy (Mike) Reed of Rochelle, IL, Susan Detig Gilbert of Redmond, WA and Mary Detig of Lindenwood; brother, David (Diane) Fischer of Rockford, IL; six grandchildren: Erin (Cameron) Modjeski, Joel (Whitney) Detig, Katie (Eric) Paulsen, Allison (Justin Durancik) Reed, Jacklyn (Michael) Mlejnek and Emily (Shane Kilduff) Gilbert; four great grandchildren: Callan Modjeski, Cormac Modjeski, Emerson Durancik, Dylan Detig with two more on the way; and Norna (Todd Seaworth) Detig and Eric and Hannah Seaworth.

In addition to her parents, Barb was preceded in death by her son, Mark Detig; great-grandson, Ellis Modjeski; two sisters: Frances Reints and Mary Ellen Rahn and two brothers: Kenneth and John Fischer.  The family wishes to thank nurses, Rachael and Dawn, and special friends, Kathy and Steve Korth for their support and care.

The visitation will be from 4:00 - 7:00 P.M., Monday, March 4, 2024 at the Unger-Horner Funeral Home, 400 N. 6th St., Rochelle.  The funeral mass will be held at 10:00 A.M., Tuesday, March 5 at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 236 Kelley Drive, Rochelle with Father Jesus Dominguez officiating.  The burial will follow the service at Lindenwood Cemetery in Lindenwood, IL.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Barb’s memory to Serenity Hospice and Home.  Visit www.ungerhorner.com to sign the online guest book.
