The Rochelle Wrestling Club sent 19 athletes to the 2023 Stillman Valley Holiday Tournament on Sunday. Seven Rochelle athletes brought home first-place finishes, while three more secured second-place finishes and three others earned third-place finishes.

The Rochelle Hub varsity bowling team traveled for the Freeport Sport Shot Tournament on Saturday, finishing 15th out of 20 schools with a 4,512 final score after six games. Rochelle (9-6, 4-3 Interstate 8) will be off from the lanes until Thursday, Dec. 29, when the Hubs are scheduled to bowl at the Dixon Toughman Tournament.

The Rochelle Wrestling Club sent 13 athletes to the 2023 John Nagy Throwdown in Dixon on Sunday, Dec. 10. Four Rochelle athletes brought home first-place finishes in the tournament, while five others secured second-place finishes and two more placed third.

Junior Abby Metzger and senior Alivia Henkel each reached double figures in scoring on Wednesday, when the Rochelle Lady Hub varsity basketball team faced Ottawa in Interstate 8 Conference action. Henkel finished with 16 points, six rebounds and six steals, while Metzger followed with 10 points and five rebounds as the Lady Hubs suffered their eighth straight loss, falling to the Pirates 69-42.

Junior guard Carson Lewis set a goal to become a more versatile scorer for the Rochelle Hub varsity basketball team this season.

A defensive battle broke out on Friday evening, when the Rochelle Hub varsity basketball team faced off against Ottawa in an Interstate 8 Conference showdown. Freshman Brody Bruns finished with 10 points and nine rebounds, while junior Elijah Harley added 10 points and four rebounds as the Hubs fell to the Pirates 55-47 at Kingman Gym. Rochelle (2-7, 0-4 Interstate 8) will host Princeton on Saturday.

The Rochelle Hub varsity wrestling team brought home three victories from the annual Oak Forest Mega Duals on Saturday. Rochelle (15-2, 3-0 Interstate 8) recorded a 51-23 win over Prospect as well as a 51-21 win over Oak Forest and a 40-39 win over York. The Hubs suffered one loss at the meet, falling 42-29 against Naperville Central to conclude the day. Rochelle will return to the mat on Thursday with a home match against Belvidere North.

Junior Kendyl Darby went to work on the block Saturday, when the Rochelle Lady Hub varsity basketball team battled Genoa-Kingston seeking its second straight victory.

The Rochelle Hub varsity bowling team snapped a two-match losing streak on Thursday, when the purple and white hosted Streator in nonconference action. Senior Christian Thorne fired a team-high 612 series, while sophomore Andrew Powell added a 567 series as the Hubs defeated the Bulldogs 3,245-2,959 at T-Byrd Lanes. Rochelle (9-6, 4-3 Interstate 8) will bowl at the Freeport Sport Shot Tournament on Saturday afternoon.

The Rochelle Hub varsity wrestling team extended its winning streak on Thursday, defeating Dakota and Oregon in nonconference action. Rochelle opened the triangular meet with a 53-21 win over Dakota before taking down Oregon 54-24 to close out the evening. The Hubs (12-1, 3-0 Interstate 8) will travel for the Oak Forest Mega Duals on Saturday afternoon.

Wednesday evening was a pivotal match in the Interstate 8 Conference, as the Rochelle Hub varsity bowling team looked to bounce back from a loss against LaSalle-Peru and remain near the top of the conference standings with a win over Sycamore. While the Hubs took the first game from the Spartans, Sycamore rallied to claim both the second and third games as well as the series total, handing Rochelle a 3,300-3,087 defeat at T-Byrd Lanes.

The Rochelle Lady Hub varsity bowling team returned to T-Byrd Lanes for its second home match in two days on Wednesday evening. Junior Cassidy Vincent rolled a team-high 555 series, while sophomore Kylie McCullough added a 452 series as the Lady Hubs fell 2,769-2,415 against Sterling. Rochelle (4-3, 3-2 Interstate 8) will face Ottawa on the road next Wednesday.

A comeback effort allowed the Rochelle Hub varsity wrestling team to remain unbeaten in the Interstate 8 Conference on Wednesday evening, when the purple and white rallied off four consecutive falls to upend the Morris Redskins in a head-to-head matchup.

Kara Martinez was eager to return to action after missing several games with an injury. The senior guard returned to the lineup and made a trio of huge shots on Thursday, when the Rochelle Lady Hub varsity basketball team hosted Belvidere North in nonconference play.

The Rochelle Hub varsity basketball team dominated the first quarter of its nonconference game against Genoa-Kingston on Wednesday evening, outscoring the Cogs 22-6 during that frame. Junior Carson Lewis scored a team-high 17 points and made five 3-pointers, while senior Eli Luxton recorded an 11-point, 13-rebound double-double as the Hubs cruised over Genoa-Kingston 74-44. Rochelle (2-6, 0-3 Interstate 8) snapped a six-game losing streak with the win.

Sophomore Kylie McCullough delivered a trio of crucial strikes as the Rochelle Lady Hub varsity bowling team looked to close out a tight match against Kaneland on Tuesday.

The Rochelle Hub varsity bowling team competed without two starters during Monday's Interstate 8 Conference matchup against LaSalle-Peru. Junior Logan Frye fired a team-high 583 series, while sophomore Caleb Mortensen added a 526 series as the Cavaliers edged Rochelle 3,048-2,951. The Hubs (8-5, 4-2 Interstate 8) will host Sycamore on Wednesday.

The Rochelle Hub and Lady Hub varsity bowling teams competed at the annual Cavalier Classic on Saturday afternoon. The Hubs finished sixth out of 12 schools with a final score of 5,500, while the Lady Hubs took fifth out of 11 schools with a final score of 4,326.

The Rochelle Lady Hubs and Morris Redskins each saw their standout players take over during the second half of their Interstate 8 Conference matchup on Friday evening.

Friday evening saw two teams in the Rochelle Hubs and the Morris Redskins that were desperate for an Interstate 8 Conference win. With players diving all over the floor and both teams exchanging momentum, late-game execution would ultimately decide the victor.

The Rochelle Hub varsity basketball team struggled to jump start its offense Monday evening, when the purple and white hosted unbeaten Dixon in nonconference play.

A 30-0 shutout in the first quarter was enough for Sycamore to hand the Rochelle Lady Hub varsity basketball team a loss in its first Interstate 8 Conference matchup of the season. Senior Alivia Henkel finished with eight points, eight rebounds and three steals for the Lady Hubs, who fell to the Spartans 64-34 to start the Interstate 8 schedule. Rochelle (3-7, 0-1 Interstate 8) will host Morris on Friday.

The Rochelle Hub varsity wrestling team conquered the Interstate 8 last season, winning both the regular season and tournament titles. If Thursday’s conference meet against Ottawa and LaSalle-Peru was any indication, Rochelle will be the team to beat once again.
