A defensive battle broke out on Friday evening, when the Rochelle Hub varsity basketball team faced off against Ottawa in an Interstate 8 Conference showdown. Freshman Brody Bruns finished with 10 points and nine rebounds, while junior Elijah Harley added 10 points and four rebounds as the Hubs fell to the Pirates 55-47 at Kingman Gym. Rochelle (2-7, 0-4 Interstate 8) will host Princeton on Saturday.

OTTAWA — A defensive battle broke out on Friday evening, when the Rochelle Hub varsity basketball team faced off against Ottawa in an Interstate 8 Conference showdown. Freshman Brody Bruns finished with 10 points and nine rebounds, while junior Elijah Harley added 10 points and four rebounds as the Hubs fell to the Pirates 55-47 at Kingman Gym. Rochelle (2-7, 0-4 Interstate 8) will host Princeton on Saturday.

Sophomore Van Gerber recorded eight points and two steals for the Hubs, who led 13-11 after the first quarter but were held to six points in the second quarter. Cooper Knoll scored a team-high and a game-high 16 points for the Pirates, who regained control in the second quarter and held a 28-19 halftime lead. Despite shooting under 33 percent from the field, Rochelle outscored Ottawa 10-2 in transition Friday evening.

Junior Carson Lewis totaled six points and seven rebounds, while senior Jack Tracey chipped in five points in the loss. Drake Kaufman and Huston Hart each recorded 11 points for the Pirates, who edged Rochelle in the second half by a 28-27 scoring margin. The Hubs forced 17 turnovers and generated 10 steals in the game.
