OREGON – Serenity Hospice & Home is delighted to introduce its new medical director, Dr. John Plescia. Active in the Mt. Morris-Oregon area for several years, Dr. Plescia has demonstrated care for all in need since joining Serenity in the fall of 2023. Many have heard the name Dr. Plescia in his professional roles at KSB’s Oregon Health Clinic and Allure of Pinecrest in Mt. Morris.

Born and raised in Illinois, Dr. Plescia is also a published author, penning a work of fiction that started as stories told to his children when they were younger. “The Northwoods Adventures of Bob Baker” published in 2021 centers on an aging Maine trapper and the need for second chances. The book is available at Books On First in Dixon with a sequel to the story forthcoming. Other interests for Plescia vary from canoeing to prairie restoration, and hiking. He received his medical education at the University of Illinois College of Medicine Rockford, and residency at SwedishAmerican Hospital (Rockford).

Working alongside Dr. Tim Appenheimer (former Serenity medical director), there were many valuable lessons about end-of-life care learned as their time at Serenity overlapped. Hospice care for Dr. Plescia is about giving patients the gift of time to reflect and be able to communicate with loved ones in profound and deeply-personal ways.

“Serenity has a reputation known for excellent care and our nurses, CNAs, counselors, and chaplains are truly special,” Plescia said. “I want everyone to know that we have high-quality medical care with comfort as a priority at the end of life.”

Serenity care surrounds the patient with help related to the physical, emotional, and spiritual needs related to end of life care. Serenity Hospice & Home is extremely thankful for the leadership, skill, assistance, and concern that Dr. Plescia brings to Serenity’s family of service.
