Girl Scouts from the Southern Ogle County Service Unit helped plant a tree at the Flagg Township Museum on April 23. Scouts from Troops 409, 1870, 2122, and 1168 took part in the tree planting ceremony.  Museum Director Jan Devore gave a short talk on Laura Fessler, a Rochelle woman who was instrumental in getting school children to vote on a state tree over 100 years ago.  The official state tree is now the white oak, and Monica Putnam and Jim Williams of Hidden Timbers delivered the tree and helped with the planting. Scouts were even able to get their hands dirty by spreading mulch around the roots. They also got to tour the museum and enjoy some snacks.
