ROCHELLE — Michael John Vanderpool, age 82 passed away on Sunday, May 5, 2024 in the presence of his family and the loving hands of Serenity Hospice and his Lord and Savior.  He was born on January 10, 1942, the son of Carroll and Ruth (Hayes) Vanderpool. Growing up Michael worked on the family farm and was credited with making the straightest rows of anyone.  Michael always took pride in whatever he was involved in, including working 40 years as a Fork Lift Operator at Del Monte, where he retired. He also loved fast cars and bought many new cars in his lifetime, including his pride and joy, a 1971 Pontiac Judge. Michael also enjoyed Nascar, Wrestling, and had a fantastic album collection, including some of his favorites, Johnny Cash and, of course, Elvis.  He loved spending time with his family, rarely missing a family gathering, especially if there was going to be “The Famous” Chicken & Noodles prepared by his sister Carol.  That was his favorite!  

Michael is survived by a son, Steven Otten; brother, Richard (Claudia) Vanderpool; sister, Carol Anne Capes, and many nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents and 2 sisters.  Per his wishes, there will be no public services.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Serenity Hospice and Home,1658 IL-2, Oregon, IL 61061.  Burial at Whiterock Cemetery.  Unger Horner Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.  Guest book at www.UngerHorner.com
