City of Rochelle earns award for utilities

SPRINGFIELD – The City of Rochelle was honored by the Illinois Municipal Utilities Association (IMUA) for earning Platinum Level Status designation in the American Public Power Association’s (APPA) Reliable Public Power Provider (RP3) Program.
The award – presented last Thursday (May 18) evening by IMUA President & CEO Kevin M. Gaden in cooperation with APPA President & CEO Sue Kelly – recognizes those public power utilities which demonstrate proficiency in four key disciplines: reliability, safety, workforce development and system improvement. Other criteria include sound business practices and a utility-wide commitment to safe and reliable delivery of electricity.

Rochelle – along-time participant in IMUA’s month Safety & Training Program - was among the 110 public power utilities nationwide earning an APPA designation. In all, 235 of the more than 2,000 public power utilities nationwide hold the RP3 Program designation.
“Utilities earning an RP3 designation also demonstrate public power’s emphasis on leading practices and providing a high level of service to their customers and communities,” Gaden noted. “Given that, we’re both proud and pleased to recognize the City of Rochelle in this regard.”
Organized in 1948, IMUA is a not-for-profit corporation/trade association representing the unified interests of 52 municipally-owned and operated electric natural gas, cable, water, wastewater treatment and telecommunications utilities throughout Illinois.
In addition, IMUA has five Affiliate Members and 51 Associate Members/Vendors, which range from consultants, engineering firms and electric supply/sales contractors to manufacturers, construction companies and businesses providing environmental, billing and utility rate-design services.
