ROCHELLE — Nearly every player on the Rochelle varsity boys soccer team had an opportunity to get involved during Monday’s nonconference game against the Plano Reapers.

Six different Hubs scored goals, and Rochelle recorded assists by six different boys in the team’s 7-0 victory over Plano. From their starting lineup to their reserves and their junior varsity alternates, the Hubs showcased their depth from top to bottom, and the boys successfully bounced back from a tough 2-2 draw against Geneseo this past Thursday.

“My message for the boys before today’s game was to come out and play our game,” head coach Brad Male said. “We needed to start strong, and once we did that we were able to move on from there.”

Rochelle took an early lead over Plano when freshman Josue Orozco found his sophomore brother Brayan Orozco for the team’s first goal in the third minute. Junior Austin Brown then found Orozco on a through ball soon after, and Orozco finished the play off with his second goal of the evening to put the Hubs ahead 2-0 in the 13th minute.

Senior Jessee Infante assisted Josue Orozco’s first goal of the game in the 28th minute to put Rochelle up 3-0, and the Hubs added one more goal before halftime when sophomore Josh Hurtado hit a short cross inside the Plano penalty box to sophomore Adrian Solis, who booted in the ball and gave Rochelle a 4-0 advantage in the 37th minute.

Many of Rochelle’s primary players were out of the game by the start of the second half, but the Hubs continued pressuring the Reapers and adding to their lead. Infante scored an unassisted goal in the 46th minute, and Rochelle upped its lead to 6-0 when senior Ivan Orozco hit junior Alexis Quintanilla on a successful cross in the 59th minute.

“We have a lot of kids who’ve been with us since the beginning of the season and before that put in a lot of time during practice,” Male said. “It was nice to see them not only get some playing time, but get involved as well. I’m looking for those guys to stay with it so they can earn some more playing time next year.”

Junior Lazaro Gutierrez found senior Diego Lopez in the 64th minute for Rochelle’s final goal of the game. The Hubs will play at Sterling on Tuesday at 4:30 p.m. before returning home to host Yorkville on Thursday, also at 4:30 p.m.

“We can’t overlook anything,” Male said regarding Tuesday’s conference game against Sterling. “We have to play our game from the beginning. We can’t start the game slow.”
