Duo scores 7-6(2), 6-0 victory as Hubs fall to Barbs 4-1

DEKALB — Senior Parker Lenkaitis and sophomore Mark Green secured the Rochelle Hub varsity tennis team’s lone doubles point during Monday’s nonconference match at DeKalb.

Lenkaitis and Green played a tight opening set and showed dominance in the second set of their No. 1 doubles match against the Barbs, winning 7-6(2), 6-0 to score Rochelle’s lone point in the team’s 4-1 loss to DeKalb. The Hubs (3-5, 1-3 Interstate 8) conceded both singles matches, with senior Jimmy Chavez taking four games in a 2-6, 2-6 loss at the No. 1 singles court while sophomore Philip Winters claimed one game in a 1-6, 0-6 loss at No. 2 singles.

Senior Alex McBride and sophomore Caleb Mortensen nearly scored a two-set victory at the No. 2 doubles court, falling just short in a 6-7(6), 4-6 loss. Seniors Austin Raleigh and Eli Luxton went three sets at the No. 3 doubles court, falling 6-1, 6-7(4), 8-10 in a hard-fought battle.
