Five area athletes earn first-place finishes

WHEELING — The Forge Wrestling Club sent several athletes to the 2024 Wheeling Wildcat Freestyle tournament on Sunday. Nine athletes from the Rochelle area competed in the event.

Ava Barber won the 8U Bantam 58-66 Division with a 3-0 record, notching three straight falls over Wilmington’s Aiden Wilking and Kyler Murphy as well as Outcast’s Quentin Reed. Jackson Moreno won the 10U Intermediate 68-72 Division with a 2-0 record, scoring a fall over Headlock’s Payton Dorado and a 10-0 technical fall over Wilmington’s Declan Wilking.

Hadley Losoya won the 16U Cadets 132-139 Division with a 3-0 record, securing an 11-0 technical fall over ISI’s Blake Martin as well as a 10-0 technical fall over Old School Wrestling’s Rylen Jacobs and a 6-3 decision over Built by Brunson’s Trevor Hengl. Brenden Voight won the 16U Cadets 166-180 Division with a 2-0 record, scoring a 12-5 decision against Harvey Twisters wrestler Adrian Esparza as well as a 12-1 technical fall against Built by Brunson’s Henry Hafner.

Roman Villalobos won the 16U Cadets 183-194 Division with a 2-0 record, notching falls against RTC Wrestling’s Jasmine Rene and Callan’s Logan Van Duyne. Rowen Villalobos took third in the 10U Intermediate 83-86 Division and Keagan Albers took third in the 16U Cadets 125-131 Division with a 1-2 record, earning a 10-0 technical fall over Built by Brunson’s Roman Ocampo.

Conrad Barber finished fourth in the 10U Intermediate 77-81 Division and Knox Ferry finished fourth in the 10U Intermediate 54-59 Division.
