ROCHELLE — Freshman Dylan Etes walked and scored on a passed ball to help the Rochelle Lady Hub varsity softball team avoid an Interstate 8 Conference shutout against the unbeaten Sycamore Spartans on Monday evening. The Spartans were in full control during Monday’s game, scoring six runs in both the second and fifth innings to hand the Lady Hubs a 20-1 loss.

Sycamore held a 4-0 lead after the top of the first inning, where Ellison Hallahan belted a three-run homer and Annabella Johnson added an RBI single. The Spartans added six more runs in the top of the second inning, taking a 10-0 lead behind four doubles, one single and another home run from Hallahan, this time a solo shot over the left-center-field fence.

Sycamore scratched three runs in the top of the third inning, surging ahead 13-0 before Etes walked and scored on a passed ball for the Lady Hubs in the bottom of the third inning. After earning one run back in the top of the fourth inning, Sycamore clinched the win with six runs in the top of the fifth inning, where the Spartans smacked three doubles and three singles.

Rochelle (4-6, 0-3 Interstate 8) will return home for another conference game against Kaneland on Wednesday evening.
