Ogle County Sheriff’s Report: March 12-14, 2024

On March 12 at approximately 1:30 p.m. Melanie Humphrey, 44, of Rockford, was taken into custody on two outstanding warrants.  The warrants were both issued for failure to appear by Rockford PD and Dekalb County Sheriff's Office.  This arrest was made with the help from a tip provided to Crime Stoppers.

Ogle County Sheriff’s Report: March 12-14, 2024

OREGON — On March 12 at approximately 1:30 p.m. Melanie Humphrey, 44, of Rockford, was taken into custody on two outstanding warrants.  The warrants were both issued for failure to appear by Rockford PD and Dekalb County Sheriff's Office.  This arrest was made with the help from a tip provided to Crime Stoppers. 

On March 13 at approximately 10:35 a.m. deputies conducted a traffic stop in the 13,000 block of East Holcomb Road. After investigation, Alex J. Ferguson, 63, of Rockford, was placed under arrest and issued citations for driving while license revoked, operation of a motor vehicle with suspended registration, and no tailight.  Ferguson was transported to the Ogle County Jail and released with a notice to appear in court at a later date.

On March 13 at 1 p.m. deputies and Byron Fire/EMS were dispatched to the 11,000 block of North Illinois Route 2 for a single-vehicle crash with injuries. During the course of the investigation, it was determined a single blue GMC Sierra pickup truck, operated by Clifford K. Swanson, 56, of Byron was traveling southbound when it abruptly exited the roadway and entered the ditch. As a result, Swanson was transported by Byron EMS to Swedish American Hospital, for an apparent overdose. Swanson was arrested by deputies and charged with possession of fentanyl and driving under the influence of any amount of drug. Swanson was additionally issued citations for operating an uninsured motor vehicle, improper traffic lane usage, registration expiration, and failure to reduce speed/too fast for conditions. Swanson was issued a notice to appear with a future court date. 

On March 13 at 2:42 p.m. deputies were dispatched to Skare Park (5426 S. Skare Road) for a report of an assault. As a result, a 13-year-old juvenile was arrested and charged with battery. The juvenile was released into the custody of his parent. 

On March 14 at 5:53 a.m. deputies conducted a traffic stop in the 7,000 block of North River Road. As a result, Sue A. Buerke, 43, of Byron was arrested for driving while license suspended. Buerke was transported to the Ogle County Jail, and released on a notice to appear with a future court date.

All individuals are considered innocent until proven guilty.
