Snowy road cause of fatal accident

POLO — On 12-11-17 at 1545 hours The Ogle County Sheriff’s Office was called to the scene of a two-vehicle accident Monday at approximately 3:45 p.m. in Polo in the area of IL Route 26 and Edgewood Rd.
A 2013 Dodge sedan was traveling north on IL Route 26 when the vehicle lost control due to the snow-covered roadway. It then entered the southbound lane of traffic causing a 2008 GMC pickup truck driven by Dan Ditzler, 29, of Polo, to collide with the passenger side of the Dodge. The three occupants, a 27-year-old male, 26-year-old female, and 3-year-old female, were extricated from the Dodge and transported to KSB Hospital for serious injuries.

The 26-year-old female occupant of the passenger vehicle was later pronounced deceased by the Lee County Coroner.
Ditzler, along with a 7-month-old female, 2-year-old female and 5-year-old male was transported to KSB for minor injuries.  
The Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by the Polo Fire Department, Polo Police Department, State Police, IDOT, Dixon Rural Fire Department and CGH Ambulance.  The crash remains under investigation.
