ROCHELLE — The Lady Hubs varsity softball team continued its home stretch on Thursday with a Northern Illinois Big 12 Conference battle with the Geneseo Maple Leafs, with Rochelle falling to 1-15 on the season with a 14-2 loss.
Junior Alex Ferrari went a perfect 2-for-2 at the plate, while senior Paige Myroth went 1-for-2 with one RBI to lead the Lady Hub offense. Junior Britney Salinas doubled after homering against LaSalle-Peru on Tuesday, and senior Jaelyn Kammes finished the game 1-for-2.
Rochelle scored one run in the third inning and one more in the bottom of the fifth, and while the Lady Hubs held Geneseo to three runs over the final three innings, it wouldn’t be enough to dig out of a deep, early hole. The Maple Leafs took command of the game in the first with six runs in the top half to jump ahead 6-0.
The Green Machine added five more in the second to go up 11-0 before Rochelle got on the board in the third. The Lady Hubs showed signs of progress on the defensive end, committing just one error after totaling four in Tuesday’s contest against LaSalle-Peru. The girls will resume conference play against DeKalb on May 2.
