FREEPORT — The Rochelle cross country program brought home several goodies including two medals, one plaque and a large baked pretzel when the Hubs and Lady Hubs competed in the annual Pretzel Invitational hosted by Freeport High School on Saturday.
Sophomore Sara Johnson took fifth place in the junior varsity girls race with a time of 22:17 to earn a plaque and continue her award streak at five consecutive meets. Senior Britney Baez medaled in the varsity girls race, placing 15th with a time of 20:40.
Sophomore Josue Huerta led the Hubs on Saturday, taking seventh place with a time of 18:37 to medal in the junior varsity boys competition. Senior Santi Cordoba (31st in 18:15) and junior Aiden Seldal (56th in 18:59) recorded Rochelle’s top finishes in the varsity boys race.
“Once again, wet surfaces made for challenging conditions, but several team members stepped it up and produced great efforts,” head coach Mark Zilis said.
