The Rochelle Hub varsity wrestling team extended its winning streak on Thursday, defeating Dakota and Oregon in nonconference action. Rochelle opened the triangular meet with a 53-21 win over Dakota before taking down Oregon 54-24 to close out the evening. The Hubs (12-1, 3-0 Interstate 8) will travel for the Oak Forest Mega Duals on Saturday afternoon.

OREGON — The Rochelle Hub varsity wrestling team extended its winning streak on Thursday, defeating Dakota and Oregon in nonconference action. Rochelle opened the triangular meet with a 53-21 win over Dakota before taking down Oregon 54-24 to close out the evening. The Hubs (12-1, 3-0 Interstate 8) will travel for the Oak Forest Mega Duals on Saturday afternoon.

Dakota

Sophomore Keagan Albers took the mat first during Rochelle’s match with Dakota, compiling two takedowns, one reversal and one near fall before earning a third-period fall over Brix Woker in the 113-pound bout. The Hubs received three straight forfeits over the ensuing matchups, with sophomore Tony Milburn as well as junior Xavier Villalobos and sophomore Deegan Schabacker earning free wins for the 120-pound, 126-pound and 132-pound bouts.

Freshman Josh Lassiter turned a third-period reversal into a fall to win the 138-pound bout against Harlan Kinney. After freshman Angel Hernandez received a forfeit for the 144-pound bout, Dakota recorded its first win of the dual match, with Jason Bowers outlasting sophomore Brenden Voight for a 6-3 decision in the 150-pound bout. Dakota added another win in the 157-pound bout, where Connor Panoske notched a first-period fall over freshman Alex Pellicer.

Junior Grant Gensler put the Hubs back on track, totaling five near falls during his 16-0 technical fall over Jay Pearson in the 165-pound bout. Sophomore Roman Villalobos followed with a first-period takedown and fall to win the 175-pound bout. Senior Brock Metzger gave Rochelle a 53-9 win after two near falls and second-period fall over Avery Bowers in the 190-pound bout.

In a highly contested battle of state-ranked wrestlers, Dakota’s Noah Wenzel outlasted Hub junior Kaiden Morris in the 215-pound bout, earning a 7-2 decision. Dakota’s Randy McPeek received a forfeit in the 285-pound bout. Dakota won the final match of the meet, with Brandon White scoring a 10-3 decision over sophomore Freddie Hernandez in the 106-pound bout.

Oregon

Sophomore Tony Milburn kicked off the dual match against the Hawks with a 10-2 decision over Landon Ege in the 120-pound bout, compiling two takedowns, one reversal and one near fall. Junior Xavier Villalobos followed with three takedowns and a first-period fall over Colton Flaharty in the 126-pound bout. Sophomore Deegan Schabacker gave the Hubs a 16-0 lead in the match, notching a first-period fall over Preston LaBay during the 132-pound bout.

After freshman Josh Lasster took a forfeit in the 138-pound bout, Oregon earned its first win of the match, with Jakobi Donegan scoring a first-period fall over freshman Angel Hernandez in the 144-pound bout. Sophomore Brenden Voight helped the Hubs bounce back, totaling three takedowns and winning with a 7-2 decision against Ethan Mowry during the 150-pound bout.

Trailing 25-6, Oregon earned another win after Anthony Bauer secured a second-period fall over freshman Alex Pellicer in the 157-pound bout. A reversal and near fall allowed junior Grant Gensler to record a third-period fall against Jackson Glendenning in the 165-pound bout. Sophomore Roman Villalobos then scored a first-period fall over Jack Tinsman in the 175-pound bout, enabling the Hubs to command a 37-12 lead in their dual match against the Hawks.

Senior Brock Metzger turned a scoreless first period into a second-period fall over Quentin Berry in the 190-pound bout. Junior Kaiden Morris kept Rochelle rolling with four near falls during his 15-0 technical fall over Seth Rote in the 215-pound bout. Oregon’s Max George took a forfeit in the 285-pound bout, making the score 48-18 before sophomore Freddie Hernandez received a forfeit for the Hubs in 106-pound bout. The match concluded with the 113-pound bout, where Nelson Benesh recorded a first-period fall over sophomore Keagan Albers.
