The Rochelle Wrestling Club sent 16 athletes to the annual DeKalb Wrestling Club Beginners Tournament on Sunday. Four Rochelle athletes brought home first-place finishes in the tournament, while four others secured second-place finishes and six more took third place.

Four Junior Hub wrestlers win division titles

DEKALB — The Rochelle Wrestling Club sent 16 athletes to the annual DeKalb Wrestling Club Beginners Tournament on Sunday. Four Rochelle athletes brought home first-place finishes in the tournament, while four others secured second-place finishes and six more took third place.

Kolten Andersen won the Tots 31-38 Division title with a 2-0 record, scoring a 20-4 technical fall over Sycamore’s Cillin Musil and a 13-12 decision over WWC’s Quinn Fahey. Corbin Gapski won the Tots 41-43 Division title with a 2-0 record, defeating DeKalb’s Bentley Hawkins with an 8-6 decision and Sycamore’s Wyatt Hughes with an 11-9 sudden victory during overtime.

Gwen Good won the Intermediate 67-70 Division with a 3-0 record, notching a 4-0 decision over Huntley’s Scarlett Redding along with an 8-4 decision over Streator’s Braxton Dorsam and a 9-7 sudden victory over Prairie Central’s Rowen Mischke. Connor Clark won the Intermediate 157-160 Division with a 2-1 record, earning a 5-2 decision and a fall over Sheridan Finnegan. 

Jaxyn Manna finished second in the Tots 43-45 Division with a 1-1 record, earning an 11-7 decision over DeKalb’s Demi Becket. Eoghan Good finished second in the Bantam 47-48 Division with a 2-1 record, notching a 17-2 technical fall over Sandwich’s Harley Miller in the second round and a 12-0 major decision over DeKalb’s Benjamin Nunez in the third round. 

Mason Boyd finished second in the Bantam 73-78 Division with a 2-1 record, scoring a 6-3 decision over DuPec’s Asher Jakupi and an 11-2 major decision over Janesville’s Preston DuFour. Maxwell Boyd finished second in the Bantam 85-92 Division with a 2-1 record, earning a 9-4 decision over Glen Ellyn’s John Armstrong and a 7-5 decision over DeKalb’s Alayna Arias. 

Ty Johnson took third in the Tots 41-42 Division with a 1-1 record, defeating Harvard’s Nathaniel Meza with a fall. Olivia Lassiter took third in the Tots 41-43 B Division with a 1-1 record, bringing home a 6-2 decision over Huntley’s Gio Malik. Landon Leigh took third in the Novice 96-101 Division with a 1-2 record, finishing strong with a third-round fall over Harvard’s Tinley Nulle.

Raya Windham took third in the Bantam 89-94 Division with an 0-2 record. Elijah Pacheco took third in the Intermediate 47-51 Division with a 1-2 record, defeating Sycamore’s Everett Threewitt with a 10-1 major decision. Daniel Jensky took third in the Intermediate 92-97 Division with a 1-2 record, earning a second-round fall over Sandwich wrestler Brandon Nelson.

Jace Ramirez finished fourth in the Tots 38-40 Division and Cayson Oltman finished fourth in the Bantam 60-61 Division to round out the 16 Rochelle athletes who participated in the event.
