Hubs defeat Cardinals 94-43, Lady Hubs top Cardinals 83-44

STILLMAN VALLEY — The Rochelle Hub and Lady Hub track and field teams competed in a head-to-head meet against Stillman Valley on Monday. The Hubs defeated the Cardinals 94-43, while the Lady Hubs won 83-44. Both teams will return to action on Friday, with the boys traveling for the Oregon Hawk Classic and the girls heading west for the Sterling Night Relays.

Hubs

Senior Landon Mickley won two field events on Monday, finishing first in the shot put with a PR mark of 15.63 meters and the discus throw with a mark of 38.11 meters. Rochelle claimed all three jumping events, as junior Jack Tilton won the high jump with a height of 1.73 meters while senior Nathan Sergeant won the triple jump with a distance of 12.17 meters. Junior Virgil O’Dell won the long jump with a distance of 5.78 meters to help the Hubs sweep the jumping events.

Rochelle took all four relay races on Monday as well. The Hubs won the 400-meter relay (Caden Goodwin, Reece Harris, Virgil O’Dell and Caleb Wyssbrod) with a time of 45.97 seconds and the 800-meter relay (Caden Goodwin, Reece Harris, Virgil O’Dell and Caleb Wyssbrod) with a time of 1:37.56. The Hubs claimed the 1600-meter relay (Irving Escalante, Pedro Rosales, Caleb Wyssbrod and Jackson Smith) with a time of 3:50.57 and the 3200-meter relay (Bruno Fernandez, Declan McGee, Johnny Morales and Alexavier Villatoro) with a time of 10:03.65.

Sophomore Wyatt Worthington was Rochelle’s leading hurdler on Monday, taking second in both the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 18.22 seconds and the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 46.90 seconds. Senior Luis Hernandez led Rochelle in the distance events, winning the 3200-meter run with a time of 12:01.76 and the 1600-meter run with a time of 5:07.27. 

In the middle distance events, sophomore Elijah Mayen won the 800-meter run in 2:13.13 and freshman Pedro Rosales took second in the 400-meter dash with a time of 55.75 seconds. In the sprinting events, senior Irving Escalante finished third in the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.36 seconds and junior Markevion Cooper took fourth in the 200-meter dash with a time of 25.45 seconds.

Lady Hubs

Rochelle won four of the five field events on Monday. Senior Kyra Bivins took the discus throw with a mark of 29.89 meters, while junior Erin Murphy claimed the shot put with a mark of 10.34 meters. Junior Dempsey Atkinson won the high jump with a clearance of 1.49 meters and freshman Elyse Manning brought home the triple jump with a distance of 9.53 meters. Sophomore Rose Luxton took third in the long jump with a distance of 4.08 meters.

The Lady Hubs won three of the four relay events. Rochelle claimed the 800-meter relay (Valerie Saldana, Zoe White, Elyse Manning and Alex Neece) with a time of 2:00.82 and the 1600-meter relay (Kyrie Cragin, Carmela Bright, Arline Villanueva and Kylie Smith) with a time of 4:38.78. Rochelle finished first in the 3200-meter relay (Mary Chadwick, Brisa Zepeda, Bridgett Ramirez and Carmela Bright) with a time of 12:22.03 and third in the 400-meter relay (Valerie Saldana, Zoe White, Elyse Manning and Kylie Smith) with a time of 56.58 seconds.

Sophomore Rose Luxton won two distance events, taking the 1600-meter run with a time of 6:17.42 and the 800-meter run with a time of 2:50.86. Sophomore Annaliese Koziol won the 3200-meter run with a time of 14:11.83 and junior Dempsey Atkinson won the 100-meter dash with a time of 14.05 seconds. Sophomores Kyrie Cragin and Sam Overton each recorded second-place finishes, with Cragin taking second in the 400-meter dash in 1:07.79 and Overton taking second in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 22.36 seconds. Junior Alex Neece finished fifth in the 200-meter dash with a time of 31.91 seconds.
