Happy holidays from the library

The library is a busy place throughout the month of December.  We had a wonderful time at our “Whoville” Christmas Walk Open House and will continue with the fun at our Family Movie Night on Dec. 15 from 5-7 p.m.  We will be showing “Frosty the Snowman Winter Wonderland” and “The Smurfs: A Christmas Carol.”  Showtime will be at 6 p.m.  Santa will be here from 5-7 p.m. Come early and get your picture with Santa before the movies, get your popcorn and pick out your spot to watch the movies.

At the library we have over 1000 DVDs just waiting to be checked out with your library card.  We can also expand that collection by using our digital platforms, Hoopla or Boundless.  You can stream and download books, movies, music, comics and more. We have all types of media offerings for you to enjoy. Our Prairie Cat Library Catalog, Vega, allows patrons to borrow books and DVDs from other libraries. These services are designed to make borrowing and returning easy for the patron and give the patrons the widest variety of titles.

Stories are something that we enjoy reading throughout the holidays. Those favorite classics that take us back to our childhood. We can smell the tree, the cider bubbling on the stove and the sugar cookies baking in the oven. Presents are being wrapped, the room feels warm and family members are talking and enjoying each other’s company. Books can take us places, allowing us to remember a time other than the present, where we can remember and think back to another place in our memory. Memories come flooding back to us during the holidays. The library is the place where you can come to explore and remember all of those book classics and more.  We have over 60,000 physical volumes at the library and thousands more available with our digital platforms.   Come in and get your library card to explore everything the library has to offer.

I hope that your childhood memories include a library where you spent some of your time, surrounded by books and newspapers, just using your imagination. The world outside paused for a moment while you were sitting in your own space devouring the pages of a book. Take a trip back in time, where your childhood memories flood your mind. Remember those fun holiday moments and the stories that influence the adult that you are today. Come in, visit us and check out your library. From your library staff and board, happy holidays!
