Cain Millwork employees raise money for Salvation Army as bell ringers

‘It does a good service for our community’

ROCHELLE — On Thursdays during the holiday season, employees of Cain Millwork worked in shifts to raise money for the Salvation Army all day long outside of Walmart and Walgreens in Rochelle.

Kiwanis Golden K organizes the bell ringing, and Cain Millwork got involved to give back to the community with bell ringers in shorter supply in recent years, Larry Wing of Kiwanis Golden K said.

“They change shifts every hour with two new people coming in,” Wing said. “ It helps out lately because we've had less people to fill those slots. Cain takes care of all the scheduling itself on Thursday. They go out there and they just love it. They ring and everybody has a good time and it does a good service for our community.”

Wing said Dec. 21 that the Salvation Army bell ringing had already raised about $10,000 for the year in Rochelle, and Cain Millwork’s help has yielded about $1,000 every week.

“It helps the Salvation Army,” Wing said. “They were good to us when we had the tornado go through here. 80 percent of that money raised here comes back to us. That's going to be a phenomenal amount of money this year. It gets put to good use through our local Methodist Church here, which oversees the funds. Last year we had families impacted by three fires in town that were able to get help from those funds. That's what it's all about.”
