The Rochelle Hub varsity basketball team dominated the first quarter of its nonconference game against Genoa-Kingston on Wednesday evening, outscoring the Cogs 22-6 during that frame. Junior Carson Lewis scored a team-high 17 points and made five 3-pointers, while senior Eli Luxton recorded an 11-point, 13-rebound double-double as the Hubs cruised over Genoa-Kingston 74-44. Rochelle (2-6, 0-3 Interstate 8) snapped a six-game losing streak with the win.

GENOA — The Rochelle Hub varsity basketball team dominated the first quarter of its nonconference game against Genoa-Kingston on Wednesday evening, outscoring the Cogs 22-6 during that frame. Junior Carson Lewis scored a team-high 17 points and made five 3-pointers, while senior Eli Luxton recorded an 11-point, 13-rebound double-double as the Hubs cruised over Genoa-Kingston 74-44. Rochelle (2-6, 0-3 Interstate 8) snapped a six-game losing streak with the win.

Freshman Brody Bruns also delivered a double-double, scoring 12 points and grabbing 11 rebounds. Junior Cayden Moore finished with 14 points and three assists for the Hubs, who led the Cogs 50-20 at halftime after a 28-13 showing during the second quarter. Rochelle controlled the glass throughout the game, outrebounding Genoa-Kingston 51-29 and scoring 40 points in the paint. The Hubs forced 16 turnovers and scored 18 points off turnovers in the victory.

Senior Jack Tracey recorded five points and five rebounds, while junior Elijah Harley added six points and four rebounds on the Rochelle side. The Hubs, who shot 50 percent from the field and dished out 20 assists as a team, will face Ottawa in Interstate 8 play on the road Friday evening before hosting Princeton in nonconference play on Saturday afternoon.
