ROCHELLE — The Flagg-Rochelle Community Park District recreation center at Helms South remains on schedule to open its doors to the public on Tuesday, Dec. 1. The Board of Commissioners received an update on the project during its monthly meeting Monday night.

Executive Director Jackee Ohlinger said that members who purchased pre-sale Platinum and Silver packages will be invited to tour the facility over the next few weeks. Ohlinger also said the recreation center will have limited hours for pre-sale members to utilize the facility prior to the general public receiving access on Dec. 1. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Ohlinger said that any members looking to use the facility must register online for one-hour time slots.

“We’ve started our member tours and we’ve reached out to our 800-plus Platinum and Silver members and invited them to come tour the facility,” Ohlinger said. “We will close our Second Street office and move everybody over to the recreation center on Dec. 1 and the recreation center will be open in its entirety on that day… Because of the COVID-19 restrictions, we will be following all of the guidelines and we will have a reservation system in place on our website.”

Ohlinger said the one-hour time slots will include 45 minutes of activity and 15 minutes for park district staff to clean the facilities. Ohlinger also said members may sign up for consecutive time slots based on the availability of each facility. Members looking to register for time slots may do so through the park district website, through calling the park district or visiting the rec center.

Commissioners concluded Monday’s meeting with approvals of a one-year leasing agreement with the Flagg-Township Museum and a three-year agreement with the KSRA. Board members also approved the park district’s updated surveillance and service animal policies.
