ROCHELLE — The Rochelle Fire Department honored Loren Edwards on Friday morning during a funeral ceremony for the former longtime lieutenant, who died June 2.
Rochelle Fire Chief Dave Sawlsville drove Gertie, the antique fire truck, into the Woodlawn Cemetery in Creston Friday morning to lay retired fire lieutenant Loren Edwards’ cremated remains to rest. Several members of Edwards’ family including his children, son-in-law and grandchildren accompanied on Gertie as well as department chaplain Judy Williams.
Friends from the Hub City Cruisers car club followed to give Edwards a final sendoff. Edwards’ wife, Rosemary, drove the couple’s restored 1957 Chevrolet Bel Air.
Edwards was a firefighter for the City of Rochelle for 27 years, retiring in 2000. Edwards was also a previous president and vice president of the car club.
