Lady Hubs finish 12th and Hubs take 16th in meet at St. Ambrose

DAVENPORT, Iowa — The Rochelle Hub and Lady Hub track and field teams traveled west to the St. Ambrose University campus in Iowa for the annual Assumption Invitational. The Lady Hubs finished 12th out of 16 teams with 12 points and the Hubs took 16th out of 17 teams with 15.5 points. Rochelle’s next outdoor meet will be held at Sterling on Tuesday, April 9.

Lady Hubs

Senior Kylie Smith finished eighth in the 400-meter dash with a season-best time of 1:09.50. Freshman Jasmine Walsh took ninth in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:27.47 and sophomore Rose Luxton placed seventh in the 1500-meter run with a time of 5:37.97.

Rochelle’s 3200-meter relay team (Rose Luxton, Mary Chadwick, Brisa Zepeda and Emely Hernandez) finished sixth overall with a time of 12:20.33. The Lady Hubs took eighth in the 1600-meter sprint medley relay (Elyse Manning, Reese Kissack, Jasmine Walsh and Mary Chadwick) with a time of 5:11.60 and ninth in the 800-meter sprint medley relay (Valerie Saldana, Zoe White, Elyse Manning and Kylie Smith) with a finishing time of 2:10.34.

Rochelle’s 1600-meter relay team (Kylie Smith, Rose Luxton, Brisa Zepeda and Mary Chadwick) and 800-meter relay team (Elyse Manning, Zoe White, Valerie Saldana and Katie Toczylowski) each placed 11th with respective times of 5:02.65 and 2:02.62. Senior Kyra Bivins shined in the field events for the Lady Hubs, finishing fourth in the discus with a throw of 92 feet and ninth in the shot put with a heave of 27 feet ½ inches. 

Hubs

Senior Luis Hernandez led Rochelle in the distance events, finishing sixth in the 3200-meter run with a time of 11:01.45 and seventh in the 1600-meter run with a time of 5:05.65. Sophomore Wyatt Worthington took eighth in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:04.43 and 13th in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 18.01 seconds. Sophomores Reece Harris and Caden Goodwin placed 12th and 15th in the 200-meter and 100-meter dash events, respectively. 

Rochelle took seventh in the 3200-meter relay (Elijah Mayen, Chris Hickey, Pedro Rosales and Declan McGee) with a time of 9:40.96 and eighth in the 1600-meter relay (Irving Escalante, Caleb Wyssbrod, Declan McGee and Nathan Sergeant) with a time of 3:51.71. The Hubs placed ninth in the 800-meter sprint medley relay (Markevion Cooper, Virgil O’Dell, Nathan Sergeant and Irving Escalante) with a time of 1:44.45 and ninth in the 440-meter shuttle hurdle relay (Wyatt Worthington, Kenny Overton, Hunter Bivins and Eliud Lombardia) in 1:16.47.

Senior Nathan Sergeant finished sixth in the long jump with a distance of 19 feet 7 inches and junior Jack Tilton took sixth in the high jump with a clearance of 5 feet 8 inches. Senior Landon Mickley finished 11th in the shot put and 12th in the discus to lead the Rochelle throwers.
