Several athletes bring home first-place finishes on Tuesday

STERLING — The Rochelle Hub and Lady Hub track and field teams faced Sterling, Sycamore and Dixon in a four-team meet at Sterling High School on Tuesday. Both teams finished third out of four teams, with the Hubs scoring 60.33 points and the Lady Hubs totaling 56 points. The Lady Hubs will compete in the Pretzel Invitational at Freeport on Friday, while the Hubs will return home on Saturday, when Rochelle Township High School is set to host the Hub Relays.

Hubs

Senior Nathan Sergeant and sophomore Caden Goodwin finished first and second in the triple jump with respective marks of 11.88 and 11.60 meters. Sophomore Andrew Nuyen finished second in the pole vault with a clearance of 4.35 meters and junior Jack Tilton took third in the high jump with a clearance of 1.80 meters. Senior Landon Mickley and junior Colton Czekala finished first and second in the shot put with respective heaves of 14.21 and 13.63 meters.

Rochelle finished first in the 3200-meter relay (Irving Escalante, Pedro Rosales, Luis Hernandez and Caleb Wyssbrod) with a time of 9:12.67 and first in the 1600-meter relay (Jackson Smith, Caleb Wyssbrod, Irving Escalante and Nathan Sergeant) with a time of 3:43.69. The Hubs took second in the 800-meter relay (Caden Goodwin, Reece Harris, Virgil O’Dell and Nathan Sergeant) with a time of 1:36.07 and third in the 400-meter relay (Caden Goodwin, Reece Harris, Aaron DeClerck and Andrew Nuyen) with a time of 45.58 seconds.

Senior Abel Huerta won the 3200-meter run with a time of 12:41.35 and senior Luis Hernandez took seventh in the 1600-meter run with a time of 5:04.45. Sophomore Caden Goodwin placed fifth in the 200-meter dash with a time of 24.07 seconds and sophomore Reece Harris took seventh in both the 100-meter dash (11.78 second) and the 200-meter dash (24.25 seconds).

Lady Hubs

Junior Dempsey Atkinson finished first in the high jump with a clearance of 1.50 meters. Freshman Elyse Manning took fourth in the triple jump with a distance of 9.18 meters and sophomore Rose Luxton finished ninth in the long jump with a distance of 4.10 meters. In the throwing events, senior Kyra Bivins took second in the discus throw with a mark of 30.63 meters and junior Erin Murphy finished sixth in the shot put with a mark of 9.32 meters.

Rochelle took first in the 3200-meter run (Rose Luxton, Mary Chadwick, Brisa Zepeda and Carmela Bright) with a time of 12:03.49 and third in the 1600-meter run (Mary Chadwick, Brisa Zepeda, Annaliese Koziol and Rose Luxton) with a time of 5:08.77. The Lady Hubs took second in the 400-meter relay (Valerie Saldana, Zoe White, Elyse Manning and Kylie Smith) with a time of 56.13 seconds and third in the 800-meter relay (Valerie Saldana, Zoe White, Elyse Manning and Katie Toczylowski) with a time of 2:00.32. 

Sophomore Kyrie Cragin and freshman Jasmine Walsh finished first and third in the 300-meter hurdles with respective times of 54.16 and 56.05 seconds. Sophomore Annaliese Koziol took first in the 3200-meter run with a time of 14:34.83 and sophomore Rose Luxton finished first in the 1600-meter run with a time of 5:53.78. Senior Kylie Smith took third in the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:10.17 and freshman Elyse Manning finished fourth in the 100-meter dash with a time of 14.06 seconds. Walsh took sixth in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 20.28 seconds.
