Hubs finish first and Lady Hubs take fifth on Saturday

BYRON — The Rochelle Hub and Lady Hub track and field teams competed at the Byron Indoor Preview on Saturday. The Hubs finished first out of eight schools with 133 points, while the Lady Hubs took fifth out of 10 schools with 47 points. The next coed indoor meet will be held on March 16, when the Hubs and Lady Hubs travel for the Warrior Invitational in Sterling.

Hubs

Senior Luis Hernandez led the Rochelle boys in the distance events, winning the 3200-meter run with a time of 10:56.34 and finishing sixth in the 1600-meter run with a time of 5:25.74. Junior Virgil O’Dell took second in the 200-meter dash with a time of 25.83 seconds and sophomore Wyatt Worthington placed third in the 55-meter hurdles with a time of 9.21 seconds. Sophomore Reece Harris finished fourth in the 55-meter dash with a time of 7.17 seconds. 

Rochelle won four of the five field events on Saturday. Senior Landon Mickley won the shot put with a heave of 14.29 meters, while junior Colton Czekala took second with a heave of 14.11 meters. Junior Jack Tilton won the high jump with a clearance of 1.86 meters and sophomore Andrew Nuyen won the pole vault with a clearance of 3.96 meters. Senior Nathan Sergeant won the triple jump with a mark of 12.15 meters and took second in the long jump at 5.65 meters.

Rochelle won the 800-meter relay (Caden Goodwin, Reece Harris, Jackson Smith and Nathan Sergeant) with a time of 1:43.98. The Hubs finished second in the 1600-meter relay (Caleb Wyssbrod, Irving Escalante, Chris Hickey and Elijah Mayen) with a time of 3:56.71 and third in the 3200-meter relay (Elijah Mayen, Pedro Rosales, Declan McGee and Johnny Rosales) with a time of 9:45.60. Freshman Pedro Rosales took sixth in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:26.80.

Lady Hubs

Sophomores Annaliese Koziol and Rose Luxton led the Rochelle girls in the distance events, with Koziol taking second in the 3200-meter run (14:06.29) and Luxton finishing sixth in the 1600-meter run (6:29.62). Senior Kylie Smith finished sixth in the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:10.65 and sophomore Carmela Bright took ninth in the 800-meter run with a time of 3:11.12.

Sophomore Ryelee Bogle won the triple jump with a distance of 8.69 meters and placed seventh in the 55-meter dash with a time of 8.47 seconds. Senior Kyra Bivins brought home another Rochelle win in the field events, claiming the shot put with a heave of 9.11 meters. Junior Dempsey Atkinson took third in the high jump with a clearance of 1.42 meters and freshman Elena Daugherty took third in the triple jump with a mark of 7.83 meters.

Rochelle finished fifth in the 3200-meter relay (Brisa Zepeda, Emely Hernandez, Bridgett Ramirez and Rose Luxton) with a time of 12:34.52. The Lady Hubs took sixth in the 800-meter relay (Valerie Saldana, Elyse Manning, Reese Kissack and Katie Toczylowski) with a time of 2:06.99 and seventh in the 1600-meter relay (Kylie Smith, Kyrie Cragin, Jasmine Walsh and Arline Villanueva) with a time of 5:03.03.
