The Forge Wrestling Club sent six athletes to the 2023 Providence Catholic Freestyle Developmental tournament on Saturday. Two athletes brought home first-place finishes, while two others secured second-place finishes in the wrestling tournament.

The Rochelle Lady Hub varsity softball team teed off the 2023 season on Friday evening, falling 13-1 against Belvidere North in nonconference action. Senior Morgan Smardo took the circle for the Lady Hubs (0-1, 0-0 Interstate 8), striking out eight batters in five innings. Rochelle will host Rockford Guilford for another nonconference game on Monday at 4:30 p.m.

Girls Soccer: Tarvestad signs with Kishwaukee College

Senior defender Abby Tarvestad has seen her skills on the soccer field grow over her three seasons with the Rochelle Lady Hub varsity soccer team. Tarvestad will continue her athletic career and her academics at Kishwaukee College, where she intends to study nursing while playing soccer for the Lady Kougars. Tarvestad becomes the latest of a growing number of Rochelle Township High School athletes continuing on with Kishwaukee College.

The Rochelle Wrestling Club sent two athletes to the 2023 Illinois Midget Championships at the Wintrust Sports Complex over the weekend. Nehemiah Andronic and Dominic Escatel competed in the three-day tournament that ran from March 17-19.

Track & Field: Rochelle teams race at Warrior Invitational

The Rochelle Hub and Lady Hub track and field teams concluded their indoor seasons at the Warrior Invitational on Saturday afternoon. Several Rochelle student-athletes brought home top finishes in the five-team meet, which featured Erie, Sterling, United Township and Rock Island. Rochelle will start the outdoor season with a coed meet at Plano on April 4.

Football: Gerber commits to Monmouth College

David Gerber was grateful that his friends convinced him to return to the Rochelle Hub football program for his senior season. After spending one year away from the team to focus on basketball, Gerber started at wide receiver and cornerback for the Hubs this fall, helping Rochelle to a 9-3 season as well as a berth in the IHSA 4A Playoff Quarterfinals.

Golf: Ohlinger commits to Kishwaukee College

Another member of the Rochelle Township High School golf program will be continuing his academics and athletics with Kishwaukee College next year. Senior Griffin Ohlinger intends to tee off for the Kougars after four successful seasons at RTHS, where he was an IHSA Sectional qualifier as a junior and an All-Conference First Team honoree in the Interstate 8 as a senior.

Boys Track: Hubs finish sixth at Gary Egler Invitational

The Rochelle Hub track and field team battled at the Gary Egler Invitational on Wednesday, with the varsity team scoring 31 points and placing sixth out of eight schools. The fresh-soph team took third out of eight schools with 59.5 points in the competition.

Track & Field: Meyers medals in third at 2023 NJCAA Indoor Nationals

Former Lady Hub student-athlete Teagan Meyers felt that her track and field days were over. After a successful four-year career at Rochelle Township High School, where she reached the IHSA State Championship meet twice and earned All-Conference honors in the Interstate 8, Meyers was unsure about continuing her education after graduating from RTHS in 2022.

Track & Field: Rochelle teams take fourth at Byron Indoor Preview

The Rochelle Hub and Lady Hub track and field teams competed in the Byron Indoor Preview on Saturday. The Hubs tied for fourth out of 11 schools with 45 points, while the Lady Hubs took fourth out of 11 schools with 60 points. Rochelle will send the Hubs to the Gary Egler Invitational on Wednesday before both teams participate in the Warrior Invitational on Saturday.

The Rochelle Wrestling Club sent three athletes to the IKWF State Championship at the BMO Center on Friday and Saturday. Eliud Lombardia, Benjamin Morris and Teddy Millard battled in the state tournament, with the wrestlers combining for three wins.

Girls Soccer: Avila signs with Kishwaukee College

Rochelle senior Mavi Avila took on a lead role with the Lady Hub varsity soccer team last season, totaling four goals and four assists as a starting midfielder while helping Rochelle record its most successful season in over a decade. Avila, who aspires to be a Division I soccer player, will be continuing her academics and her athletics at Kishwaukee College next year.

    The Rochelle Lady Hub varsity soccer team won its second consecutive match to open the 2023 season, defeating Sterling 5-1 in nonconference action. Sophomore Makayla Lara netted three goals and one assist for the Lady Hubs (2-0, 0-0 Interstate 8), while junior Sydney Thorne and sophomore Betty Flores added goals in the win. Junior Danica Ward recorded four saves for the Lady Hubs, who host Stillman Valley on Friday at 4:30 p.m.
