Girls Tennis: Rochelle places second in Lady Hub Invitational

The Rochelle Lady Hub varsity tennis team saw several players shine during the Lady Hub Invitational at Rochelle Township High School on Saturday. Juniors Erin Murphy and Kitty Williams won the No. 3 doubles crown, while senior Elin Zheng brought home the No. 1 singles title during Saturday’s tournament. Rochelle finished second out of five schools.

Golf: Hubs take 11th at Sterling Invitational

The Rochelle Hub varsity golf team competed in the Sterling Invitational at Emerald Hill on Saturday afternoon. Sophomore Ian Metzger finished with an 18-hole round of 84 to take 18th individually, while freshman Alex Dyer followed with a 90 as the Hubs finished 11th out of 12 schools. Rochelle (2-10, 0-5 Interstate 8) will travel for the Interstate 8 Conference meet at Kishwaukee Country Club on Monday.

Junior Tackle: Rochelle takes down Rockton for three wins

The Rochelle Junior Tackle teams returned from a one-week hiatus to host Rockton at Helms Park on Saturday afternoon. All three teams that competed on Saturday earned victories, while the seventh-graders received a forfeit due to Rockton not having a seventh-grade team. Rochelle will conclude the regular season at Winnebago this weekend.

Cross Country: Koziol medals at annual Rock River Run

Sophomore Annaliese Koziol medaled for the Rochelle Township High School cross country team on Saturday, when the Hub and Lady Hub harriers traveled for the annual Rock River Run at Hoover Park in Sterling. Koziol took seventh out of 105 runners in the fresh-soph race, clocking in at 21:05.00 and leading the Lady Hubs to sixth place as a team.

Football: Hubs hang tough in loss to state-ranked Sycamore

Head coach Kyle Kissack lauded the effort from his defense Friday evening, when the Rochelle Hub varsity football team challenged the unbeaten Sycamore Spartans, who entered the Interstate 8/Kishwaukee River Conference crossover contest ranked No. 2 in Class 5A.

Rochelle started the tournament with a 11-25, 25-15, 15-10 win over Hall Township before defeating Milledgeville 25-21, 25-20 and North Boone 25-23, 25-8 to take the title.
