The Rochelle News-Leader has selected Rochelle Township High School seniors Devansh Patel and Zoey Tabor as the winners of the 2021-22 Scholar-Athlete Awards. The RTHS student-athletes will each receive $500 toward their respective college educations.

Softball: Lady Hubs take home loss from Ottawa

The Rochelle Lady Hub varsity softball team teed off its final week of the regular season with a home loss against Ottawa on Monday. Behind four runs in both the first and second innings as well as a six-run frame in the top of the fifth inning, Ottawa cruised over the Lady Hubs 16-2 in Interstate 8 Conference action. Rochelle (6-13, 3-10 Interstate 8) totaled two hits in the loss, with freshman Lauren Dyer and senior Lauren Jackson each recording singles.

Rochelle senior Rowan Williams steadily improved throughout his four years with the Rochelle Township High School golf program. Williams will look to continue honing his skills on the course as he continues his academics and his golf career with Kishwaukee College next year.

Local wrestlers shine at Northern Plains Regional Championships

Several Rochelle-area athletes competed in the 2022 USA Wrestling Northern Plains Regional Freestyle and Greco-Roman Championships at the Woodside Dome this past weekend. Three Rochelle Township High School athletes including Kaiden Morris, Xavier Villalobos and Tommy Tourdot recorded at least one top-6 finish and qualified for the 2022 USA Wrestling 16U & Junior National Championships in Fargo.

Girls Track: Rochelle trio advances to IHSA State Championships

Prior to the IHSA 2A Genoa-Kingston Sectional on Friday, Alivia Henkel's last race in the 300-meter hurdles resulted in a tumble near the beginning of the back straightaway during the Ogle County Invitational. Friday was a much different story, however, with Henkel clearing every obstacle and blazing past the field to win the event and earn her first trip to the IHSA State Championships.

Rochelle Township High School allowed senior bowler Alyssa Mickley to compete with a team for the first time in her life. Using the leadership skills she learned in her three years with the Lady Hubs, Mickley will look to make an immediate impact at Kishwaukee College next year.

Track: Rochelle Middle School trio earns NCJC Conference titles

DeKalb High School hosted the North Central Junior Conference track and field meet on Saturday, May 7. Rochelle Middle School competed against seven other schools, with the seventh-grade boys finishing tied for third place to lead the Royals in the meet. The seventh-grade girls took seventh place and both eighth-grade teams landed in eighth place.

Rochelle senior Carly Summers will be continuing her academics and her bowling career with Kishwaukee College. Summers said she intends to study nursing while bowling for the Kougars in hopes of becoming a registered nurse and entering the workforce.

Track: Rochelle hosts 48th Annual Ogle County Invitational

Rochelle Township High School hosted the 48th Annual Ogle County Invitational on Wednesday, with the Lady Hubs winning for the fifth consecutive time and the Hubs finishing second in the five-team meet that featured Oregon, Byron, Stillman Valley and Polo-Forreston. The Lady Hubs scored 124 points to win the meet and the Hubs totaled 96 points overall.
