Boys Basketball: Sterling overwhelms Rochelle in season opener

Several members of the Rochelle Hub basketball team earned their first taste of varsity experience during Wednesday’s Strombom Tournament opener against Sterling. It was a rude awakening for the Hubs, who fell behind early and were run out of the gym as the Golden Warriors saw three starters reach double figures in scoring during a 75-37 victory over Rochelle.

Football: Gensler named to IHSFCA All-State First Team

Rochelle Township High School senior Garrett Gensler was selected to the Illinois High School Football Coaches Association All-State Team in Class 4A this season. It’s the second consecutive season that Gensler has received IHSFCA All-State recognition.

Football: Hubs turn potential into productive nine-win season

An even distribution of sophomore, junior and senior players led to the Rochelle Hub varsity football team’s first nine-win season since 2004 and the program’s first berth in the IHSA Playoff Quarterfinals since 2017. With starters on both sides of the ball eligible to return next season, head coach Kyle Kissack will be looking to turn that potential into production.

Rochelle Township High School student-athlete Bryn Kissack has been swimming since she was 18 months old. The freedom she feels while in the water is one of the many things she enjoys most about the sport, which she has competed in as a member of the Rochelle Rays with the Flagg-Rochelle Community Park District for the last several years.

Football: Hubs brace for quarterfinal matchup against Wheaton St. Francis

The Rochelle Hub varsity football team has reached the quarterfinal round of the IHSA Playoffs for the first time since the 2017 season. Unlike the team’s last quarterfinal appearance, which came on the road against Morris, Rochelle will compete on its home field as the seventh-seeded Hubs gear up to face the third-seeded Wheaton (St. Francis) Spartans.

Football: Rochelle to face Wheaton (St. Francis) in quarterfinal round of IHSA 4A Playoffs

The Rochelle Hub varsity football team received the No. 7 seed in the IHSA Class 4A Playoffs. Rochelle (9-2, 4-1 Interstate 8/Kishwaukee River Blue) will face the No. 3 seed Wheaton St. Francis (10-1, 4-0 Metro Suburban Red) in the quarterfinal round. The game will be played on Saturday, Nov. 12 at 2 p.m. at RTHS.

    The Rochelle Hub varsity bowling team faced Mendota on the road Tuesday evening, falling 3,416-3,083 in nonconference action.     The Rochelle Hub varsity bowling team earned its first Interstate 8 Conference win of the season Monday evening, defeating Kaneland 3,196-2,512 at Mardi Gras Lanes. Freshman Andrew Powell rolled a team-high 648 series for the Hubs (2-3, 1-2 Interstate 8), who will continue their schedule with a nonconference meet against Mendota on Tuesday.

    The Rochelle Lady Hub varsity basketball team secured its first victory of the 2022-23 season on Saturday, defeating Stockton 53-41 and ending a three-game winless streak. Rochelle (1-3, 0-0 Interstate 8) will battle Winnebago in tournament play on Monday.
