ROCKFORD — William A. Baker, 91, of Rockford, passed away on Monday, March 5, 2018 in his home. He was born on Feb. 17, 1927, in DeKalb, the son of Claud and Evelyn (Aspengren) Baker. He was a veteran of the Army Air Corps.
Bill married Doris Mae Osberg on Oct. 22, 1949. She predeceased him on Feb. 22, 2018. He worked as an office manager at DelMonte and after retirement in 1984 he returned to work in Building Services for NIU.
Bill was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church of Rochelle where he was a past Treasurer, Secretary, and financial secretary for 16 years, an Elder, and involved in many other church council. He enjoyed traveling, art, music and attending almost all of Rochelle High School’s football games.
Bill will be remembered as a man who loved to talk to just about anybody he met.
He is survived by his son, David (Yvonne) Baker; daughter, Karen Armstrong; grandchildren, Kyle (Melissa), Eric (Tabitha),Claire (Ian), Adrienne (Mark), Jenna (Tim) and Jamie; great-grandchildren, Cian, Kiley, Lily, Finn, Hera, Juno and Lindy; sister, Phyllis Johnson; and several nieces and nephews.
He is predeceased by his loving wife, Doris, of 67 years; and his son, Eugene D. Baker.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, March, 10 in Olson Funeral & Cremation Services, Fred C. Olson Chapel, 1001 2nd Ave., Rockford. A private burial will be held in Scandinavian Cemetery.
