ROCHELLE — Wayne L. Bunger, 75, passed away Monday, July 15, 2019, at Javon Bea Hospital in Rockford. Wayne was born June 26, 1944 in Rochelle, the son of Edwin and Vivian (Ulferts) Bunger. He married Ruth Vandre on June 26, 1965 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Rochelle.
Early in his career, Wayne worked for Swift and Co. He later worked as a manager at ConAgra in St. Charles, where he retired in 2005. Wayne was an avid sports fan. He was a big supporter of local sports, especially little league baseball. He always loved a good card game. Wayne was a man of great faith. He was a lifelong member of St. Paul Lutheran Church. He was active in the Northern Illinois and Abundant Life Tres Dias communities.
Wayne is survived by his wife of 54 years, Ruth; four children, Rosalie (Thomas) Krause, Geoffry Bunger, Douglas (Sharon) Bunger, and Christopher Bunger; 10 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a brother, Robert (Nancy Hanson) Bunger; and two sisters-in-law, Dorothy Bunger and Linda Bunger.
In addition to his parents, Wayne is preceded in death by two brothers, Jerry and Henry Bunger; and a sister, Judy Arjes.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. on Friday, July 19 at the Unger-Horner Funeral Home, 400 N. Sixth St. in Rochelle.
Funeral services will take place at 10 a.m. on Saturday, July 20 at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 1415 10th Ave. in Rochelle with Pastor Gregory Hoffmann officiating. Interment will follow in Lawnridge Cemetery in Rochelle.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Wayne’s memory may be directed to the Frieda Pickering Fund of St. Paul Lutheran School.
