CRESTON — Wanda L. (Johnson) Van Vlerah, 74, of Creston, died Wednesday, March 22, 2017, at Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago.
Born Oct. 1, 1942, in DeKalb, she was the daughter of Yngve and Virginia (Hanson) Johnson.                  
Wanda graduated from Rochelle High School Class of 1960. She was formerly employed by Tuttle Electric in Kirkland, Wurlitzer Piano in DeKalb, and Northern Illinois University food service, where she retired after more than 20 years of service.
Wanda was an avid reader, enjoyed scrapbooking, and attending movies with her grandchildren, friends, and family members.
She is survived by her daughter, Tonya (Marty) Summers of Esmond; son, Jason (Dana) Van Vlerah of Lee; four grandchildren, Alyssa and Carly Summers, Zackary White and Ryan Van Vlerah; father, Yngve “Morry” Johnson of Malta; brothers, Kevin Johnson of Malta, Brent (Nelda) Johnson of Oregon; sisters, Yvonne (Joseph) Dickens of Georgia, Brenda Niss of California; and several nieces and nephews she loved and cherished.  
She was preceded in death by her mother, Virginia.
A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, March 31 at Anderson Funeral Home in DeKalb, with the Rev. Ronald Larson of St. John’s Lutheran Church of Creston officiating. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery in Creston.
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Thursday, March 30, at Anderson Funeral Home in DeKalb.
