Rochelle girls surpass win total from 2018 season

STERLING — The Rochelle volleyball team went 3-2 over five matches during the Sterling Invitational this past Saturday. The Lady Hubs finished second in the Silver Division and moved to 17-12 overall on the season.

Rochelle opened the tournament with a 25-17, 25-16 victory over Pecatonica. Junior Clare Green paced the offense with 17 assists while senior Katie Van Hise totaled nine kills and sophomore Sylvia Hasz added 12 digs on defense.

The Lady Hubs then fell 12-25, 12-25 against tournament host Sterling in the second round of pool play. Hasz and junior Ellie Kinn each finished with seven digs, while Green recorded 11 assists and Van Hise recorded eight kills.

Rochelle bounced back with wins against Rockford East (25-18, 25-20) and Dixon (25-21, 25-23). Senior Maggie Duval had seven kills against the E-Rabs, with Green totaling 12 assists and Hasz adding eight digs. Green and Duval combined for 30 assists against the Duchesses, while Hasz finished with 12 digs and 11 kills for the double-double.

The Lady Hubs battled Bureau Valley for the Silver Division title, falling 21-25, 25-21, 16-25. Hasz and Kinn each finished with 16 digs in the match, while Green had 16 assists and Van Hise recorded 10 kills.
