ROCHELLE — The Rochelle Veterans War Memorial Committee met on Wednesday, Jan. 23 and discussed the proposed bronze statue at the memorial at Lawnridge Cemetery.
It was decided by the committee to adopt the design rendered by Fran Volz and start fundraising for the project. It should be noted that nowhere in Rochelle stands a commemorative sculptured bronze statue.
The proposed statue is a soldier in a reverent kneeling position facing the Rochelle Veteran’s War Memorial with currently 799 engraved bricks installed.
Donation pledge forms can be obtained at the Rochelle VFW, online at the City of Rochelle website (www.cityofrochelle.net) or from Pal Colwill, lead fundraiser for the project.
