VCCT to present “A Few Good Men”

ROCHELLE — Two attorneys, two different approaches to a case but only one goal: justice.
Carrie Johnson and Karl Rand portray lawyers in a death investigation at a Marine base in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, in the upcoming VCCT production of “A Few Good Men.”
Johnson is Lt. Commander Joanne Galloway while Rand is Lt. Daniel Kaffee.
They are assigned to defend two Marines charged in the death of a fellow Marine.
Kaffee is fresh out of law school and a little cocky when it comes to being a military defense attorney, Rand noted.
“Kaffee wants to live up to the legacy of his lawyer father, yet he also hopes to coast through his time with the Navy by solely dealing with plea bargains. He is finally put to the test when faced with a real trial in a real courtroom.” Rand said of his character.

His associate is Galloway.
“She is a fiery broad who wants the job done right. She thinks Kaffee is a moron, but does her best to support him in order to bring the bad guys to justice,” Johnson said of her character.

Dates

Performance dates are March 17, 18, 19, 24 and 25. Friday and Saturday shows are at 8 p.m. while the Sunday, March 19 matinee is at 2 p.m. Tickets are $12 at the door and can be bought online for $11. A table of eight can also be purchased on line for $80. Visit vcct.rochelle.org to order tickets.

Rand has appeared in several VCCT shows, including “On Golden Pond” and “Legends.” He also appeared in plays in college and at Rochelle Township High School, where he was in “Harvey” and  “The Odd Couple” along with several other shows.

“It’s been a long time since I’ve auditioned for a large role like this and I was thrilled to get the part. Galloway is a very strong woman, surrounded by men in uniform; what’s not to like?” Johnson said.
Johnson has spent a lot of her VCCT time directing shows, including the Escanaba trilogy, “The Boys Next Door,” and “Two Rooms.” She has also appeared in numerous shows, including “A Dickens of a Christmas Carol,” “Death by Chocolate” and “Don’t Vote Me Off,” as well as several others.
“This show allows so many in the cast, including me, to play a spectrum of emotions, from soft to strong to angry and frustrated to dejected and defeated and then to be funny and flirty,” Johnson said of the part.
