STERLING — Northern Illinois Big 12 Conference action took place at Sterling on Tuesday, with the Rochelle boys and girls track and field teams taking on the Golden Warriors. Sterling edged out Rochelle 90-82 on the boys side, while the Sterling girls topped Rochelle 73-45.
Boys
Senior Mason DeLille finished first in the high jump with a clearance of 5-10 and first in the triple jump with a mark of 40-1. Junior Ben Hickey took second in the high jump at 5-8 and sophomore Trevor Goodwin placed second in the triple jump at 37-10 ¾. Junior Aaron Vondergathen won the pole vault with a personal record clearance of 11-4 and sophomore Oscar Aguirre finished third in the discus with a mark of 97-5 ½.
Rochelle’s 3200-meter relay team (Tucker Louis, Santi Cordoba, Parker Hale and Connor Lenkaitis) won with a time of 9:07.50 and Rochelle’s 400-meter relay team (Dallas List, Greg Ricketts, Ben Hickey and Gyvanziel Quinonez) placed second with a time of 46.23 seconds. Sophomore Aiden Seldal won the 3200-meter run with a time of 12:29.29.
Seniors Ryan Friestad and Dylan Finkboner took first and second in the 110-meter hurdles with times of 16.99 and 18.21. Senior Jessee Infante and junior Santi Cordoba placed first and second in the 800-meter run with times of 2:10.88 and 2:19.53. Junior Jacob Eul took third in the 400-meter dash with a time of 58.78 and Aaron Vondergathen finished third in the 200-meter dash with a time of 25.38. Rochelle’s 1600-meter relay team (Connor Lenkaitis, Greg Ricketts, Ben Hickey and Parker Hale won with a time of 3:41.91.
Girls
Junior Macey Ryan won the 100-meter dash with a time of 13.04 and junior Angie Saldana took fourth in the 200-meter dash with a time of 29.04. Senior Cam Turner placed third in the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:17.37 and senior Katherine Bakken won the 1600-meter run with a personal record time of 5:36.17 while taking second in the 800-meter run in 2:37.41.
Freshman Sara Johnson finished third in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 57.32 and Rochelle’s 800-meter relay team (Grace Garcia, Abby Tilton, Teagan Meyers and Macey Ryan) won with a time of 1:53.28. Rochelle’s 1600-meter relay team (Macey Ryan, Grace Garcia, Abby Tilton and Teagan Meyers) won with a time of 4:20.97.
Sophomore Afi Gati won the shot put with a mark of 32-6 ½ and sophomore Megan Thiravong took second in the discus with a mark of 75-7 ½. Freshman Teagan Meyers won the high jump with a clearance of 4-10 and senior Abby Tilton took second in the long jump with a mark of 14-8.
