Henkel records three runner-up finishes, Hernandez sets big PRs in distance events

BYRON — The Rochelle Hub and Lady Hub track and field teams competed in the Byron Indoor Preview on Saturday. The Hubs tied for fourth out of 11 schools with 45 points, while the Lady Hubs took fourth out of 11 schools with 60 points. Rochelle will send the Hubs to the Gary Egler Invitational on Wednesday before both teams participate in the Warrior Invitational on Saturday.

Hubs

Junior Luis Hernandez set two personal records in the distance events, finishing second in the 3200-meter run with a time of 10:49.08 and third in the 1600-meter run with a time of 5:02.26. Junior Carlos Tomas took second in the shot put with a personal-record heave of 12.28 meters and sophomore Jack Tilton finished third in the high jump with a personal record of 1.72 meters. 

Junior Nathan Sergeant and freshman Caden Goodwin placed second and fourth in the triple jump with distances of 11.03 meters and 10.54 meters. Senior Ethan Bergeson finished fourth in the pole vault with a clearance of 2.59 meters and sixth in the 55-meter hurdles with a time of 9.84 seconds. Senior Landon DeLille took seventh in the 55-meter dash with a time of 7.39 seconds and senior Thomas Koziol placed ninth in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:36.43.

Rochelle’s 800-meter relay team (Griffin Ohlinger, Jackson Smith, Nathan Sergeant and Irving Escalante) and 1600-meter relay team (Irving Escalante, Jackson Smith, Nathan Sergeant and Declan McGee) finished seventh with times of 1:47.42 and 4:15.95. Rochelle’s 3200-meter relay team (Thomas Koziol, Parker Slattengren, Elijah Mayen and Declan McGee) placed fifth with a time of 9:56.70. Junior Landon Mickley took fifth in the shot put with a heave of 11.93 meters.

Lady Hubs

Junior Alivia Henkel finished second in the 400-meter dash with a time of 1.01.19, second in the 55-meter hurdles with a time of 10.04 seconds and second in the long jump with a distance of 4.57 meters. Senior Samantha Sanford took fourth in the shot put with a heave of 8.14 meters and junior Macy Ramos placed third in the high jump with a clearance of 1.32 meters.

Senior Baylie Sutton finished sixth in the triple jump with a distance of 8.29 meters and freshman Savanna Wilson took seventh in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:59.78. Freshmen Rose Luxton and Annaliese Koziol placed fifth and sixth in the 1600-meter run with a time of 7:17.92 and 7:20.18. Henkel took seventh in the 200-meter dash with a time of 30.36 seconds.

Rochelle’s 3200-meter relay team (Bridgett Ramirez, Rose Luxton, Brisa Zepeda and Ailyn Miranda) finished fifth with a time of 13:39.91. Rochelle’s 1600-meter relay team (Zoe White, Christina Jones, Arline Villanueva and Savanna Wilson) and 800-meter relay team (Zoe White, Carmela Bright, Arline Villanueva and Rylee Jackson) each placed 10th overall.
