ROCHELLE — A new sign in front of Rochelle Township High School is an indication things are about to reach a “fever” pitch with the Marching Band’s fundraising goals.
And thanks to a generous donation from two area residents, Ken Stoll and Skylar Sarver, the community can see the progress of money needed for the band’s Washington, D.C. trip.
The Marching Band has a unique opportunity to participate in the Parade of Heroes Veterans Day celebration in Washington, D.C., which honors those who served in World War II and the Korean and Vietnam wars. The band is in full swing of their fundraising to help offset the total cost of the trip, which is estimated at $92,000 or about $840 per student.
Sarver, with Midwest Signs and Designs, along with Stoll of TechniCut, heard about the band’s invitation and subsequent plan and sprang into action providing the materials and labor for the seven-foot thermometer billboard.
“I am happy to apply the skills I gained in RTHS computer graphics to help the band meet its goal,” Sarver said to RTHS’ Vicki Snyder-Chura.
Sarver graduated from RTHS in 2016.
Ron Duval, RTHS Band Director, said the students are about 30 percent towards their goal, and expressed gratitude for not only the sign donation but also for the monetary donations already received.
“I really appreciate Ken and Skylar donating the sign that shows the progress of money needed for the D.C. trip,” Duval said. “I am very humbled by the outpouring of generosity being shown as we continue this hefty task of raising money for this momentous occasion in our American and world history.”
Sponsorship opportunities
In an effort to help offset the cost of the trip, Duval has established several opportunities for community members, businesses, and corporations to help the students participate.
These include: Sponsoring a student with a pledge or a check up to $200; for each $200 pledge or check, each person would receive a special designed t-shirt emblazoned with the name(s) of the proud sponsors. The front of the shirt would feature the commemorative design reflecting the 75th anniversary and the date. Family sponsorship for $200 in memory of a veteran who served also includes the specially designed t-shirt.
Corporate sponsorships are also available with naming rights on the marching band banner or trailer display.
All donations are tax-deductible.
