There will be more than one offensive lineman from the Rochelle varsity football team suiting up for the North Central College program next season.
After senior James Hart announced his commitment to the Cardinals earlier this school year, senior teammate William Jandak revealed he has also committed to playing football at North Central College next year. Jandak anchored the Rochelle offensive line over the last two seasons, earning All-Conference First Team recognition at both right tackle and left tackle.
“I’m really looking forward to being able to play four more years of football,” Jandak said. “I know I’ll be somewhere on the offensive line but I’m not sure exactly where. I think my passion for football helps me stand out, and I want to get better at pass blocking… Rochelle football has made me who I am today, and I would not be where I am without Rochelle football.”
The 6-foot-2-inch, 270-pounder appeared as a starter in every game over his junior and senior seasons with the Hubs. Jandak spent three years with the varsity program at Rochelle, playing an integral role on an offensive line that paved the way for two 1,000-yard rushers (Alex Harvey and Ehren Metzger) during the 2017 season that saw Rochelle reach the IHSA Class 4A State Quarterfinals.
“Will’s career has been marked by consistency in every area of our program,” Hubs head coach Kyle Kissack said. “From a strength and conditioning aspect, to his leadership role, his practice habits and his performance on Friday nights… We grade out our kids weekly, and Will would consistently score very high. His consistent effort continued to build over time, and it resulted in a great career for him.”
Jandak is one of six Rochelle football players who will continue on at the college level, and the senior will be one of three Hubs wearing North Central College uniforms, joining Hart and senior teammate Eddie Villalobos. Jandak said he plans to study electrical engineering in hopes of using his degree to enter the space industry.
“North Central College has a great engineering program and their football program reminded me a lot of Rochelle’s program,” Jandak said. “They focus on playing as a team, and I know the coaches there will support me throughout my career.”
