The Lady Hubs placed seventh out of 10 schools with 25 points, while the Hubs finished 10th overall with three points. The Rochelle girls broke an indoor team record along the way, setting a new mark in the 800-meter relay with a time of 1:49.55 behind seniors Cesca Vardman, Morgan Baker, Jacie Wyatt and sophomore Macey Ryan.

Lady Hubs take seventh place and set new 800-meter relay school record, Hubs place 10th

STERLING — The Rochelle varsity boys and girls track and field teams capped off their respective indoor seasons this past Saturday, when both squads traveled to Sterling’s Westwood Sports Complex for the 2018 Northern Illinois Big 12 Conference Indoor Meet.

The Lady Hubs placed seventh out of 10 schools with 25 points, while the Hubs finished 10th overall with three points. The Rochelle girls broke an indoor team record along the way, setting a new mark in the 800-meter relay with a time of 1:49.55 behind seniors Cesca Vardman, Morgan Baker, Jacie Wyatt and sophomore Macey Ryan.

Lady Hubs

Ryan finished sixth in the 60-meter dash with Rochelle’s top time of 8.27 seconds, while Vardman placed 11th in 8.52. Ryan was the lone Lady Hub in the 200-meter dash, where she placed 11th with a time of 29.01.

Junior Cam Turner and sophomore Emma Smith each set personal records in the 800-meter run, with Turner finishing 10th in 2:45.11 and Smith taking 13th in 2:47.67. Sophomore Britney Baez finished 14th as Rochelle’s only competitor in the 1600-meter run, while junior Katherine Bakken recorded a personal record of 12:28.22 to take fifth in the 3200-meter run.

Juniors Cheyene Watson (eighth in 11.140 and Grace Garcia (12th in 12.06) led Rochelle in the 60-meter hurdles. The record-setting 800-meter relay group (Vardman, Ryan, Baker and Wyatt) placed second overall, and the Lady Hubs also took second in the 1600-meter relay (4:17.13) behind Vardman, senior Morgan Knight, Wyatt and Baker.

Wyatt’s personal record of 5-2 earned her third place in the high jump, and senior Alexis Bialas (7-0) finished 12th in the pole vault. Baker’s leap of 13-8 in the long jump put her in ninth place, while sophomore Maddie Ohlinger leapt 13-5.75 for 10th place. Turner and Ohlinger took eighth and ninth in the triple jump with respective lengths of 29-5.50 and 28-7.50.

Sophomore Cristina Alfano led Rochelle in the shot put, placing 10th with a heave of 30-10.50. Sophomore Gabrielle Harding placed 13th with a distance of 29-9.

Hubs

Senior Bazil Bennett finished seventh in the varsity boys shot put with a toss of 44-4.50, while senior Zach Miller (39-10) placed 15th. Freshman Trevor Goodwin led the Hubs in both long jump (18-2.50) and triple jump (38-9.50), placing 10th and sixth in the two events, respectively. Junior Mason DeLille placed 16th in the long jump (17-3) and seventh in the triple jump (38-3.50).

Sophomore Ben Hickey took 11th in the high jump with a clearance of 5-8, and sophomore Aaron Vondergathen finished 13th in the pole vault with a clearance of 8-0. Senior Austin Tracey cleared 7-0 for 16th place.

Junior Noah Knight (7.58 seconds) and senior Ben Pflipsen (7.78) took 11th and 18th in the 60-meter dash, respectively. Junior Ryan Friestad ran the 60-meter hurdles in 11.21, while freshman Dominic Williams clocked in at 11.34 for 15th place.

Sophomore Evan Horner led Rochelle in the 400-meter dash, taking 12th in 57.52. Junior Benjamin DaCosta (1:01.22) placed 16th, and sophomore Gyvanziel Quinonez completed the 1600-meter run in 4:46.87 for eighth place overall. Knight (12th in 25.85) and sophomore Parker Hale (16th in 27.61) led the Hubs in the 200-meter dash.

Rochelle’s 800-meter relay of Knight, junior Alex Louck, junior Eddie Villalobos and Tracey placed fifth with a time of 1:40.97. The Hubs took seventh in the 1600-meter relay behind junior Greg Ricketts, junior Connor Lenkaitis, Horner and Louck.
