ROCHELLE — A former Rochelle doctor and his wife are giving back to the community through a recent donation.
Dr. John and Esther Prabhakar presented a check for $1,000 to the Rochelle Community Hospital Auxiliary on Sept. 10. The Prabhakars gave the scholarship in appreciation of the RCH Auxiliary’s service to the hospital and the community.
They look forward to presenting the scholarship next spring to a student pursuing medicine in a Pre-Med program in 2019. The Prabhakars feel this is a good way of passing on their blessing to the next person, who in turn, can pass it on to someone else.
In 1984, the Auxiliary awarded a scholarship to John and Esther’s son, Larry, who graduated from RTHS and went on to the Pre-Med program at Augustana College and then to Mayo Medical School in Rochester, MN. Dr. Larry Prabhakar is now practicing in Rockford and Rochelle as a colorectal surgeon and his son, Nicholas, is now in Medical School.
The donation will be used as one of the Auxiliary’s five healthcare scholarships presented annually to local students pursing degrees in the field of healthcare. Applications will be accepted in February 2019 and scholarships will be awarded in April 2019. More information will be available in February from area high school counseling offices or the hospital’s website
