CHANA - Paul N. “Nick” Halverson, 75, lifelong Chana area resident, died Saturday, Nov. 10, 2018 in Dixon Rehabilitation & Health Care Center.
Born Nov. 27, 1942 in Rochelle, the son of Paul L. and Mary Ellen (Allison) Halverson, he married Nancy Lemen on Oct. 4, 1969 in Jacksonville, Florida.
Nick graduated from Rochelle High School in 1960 and received his B.S. from NIU in 1965. He was a U.S. Navy veteran serving as a fighter pilot in the Vietnam War. Nick farmed in Chana, owned and operated Halverson Builders, and worked as a crop duster.
He was a member of Chana United Methodist Church, Rochelle VFW Post #3878, Ogle County Pilots’ Association and Byron Sportsman’s Club where he enjoyed trap shooting.
He is survived by his wife, Nancy Halverson of Chana; son, Todd (Michelle) Halverson of Chana; daughters, Shannon (Dean) Harper of Byron and Colleen (Mike) Gosnell of Chana; and grandchildren, Lane and Brooke Halverson, Camryn, Savanna and Drew Harper, and Jaxxon Gosnell.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Ron Halverson.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 15 in Chana United Methodist Church with Pastor Chan Choi officiating. Burial will be in Lawnridge Cemetery, Rochelle. Visitation will be held from 5 – 8 p.m. on Wednesday in Farrell-Holland-Gale Funeral Home, Oregon.
