OPINION: Cutting the Square event went well

Posted

Dear Editor,
On behalf of the Flagg Township Museum Board of Directors I would like to thank everyone who participated in our “Cutting the Square” event on Friday, June 7.
By way of explanation, “cutting the square” was the way teens used to socialize… driving their cars in an established square route through town to see their friends and have some fun. The museum wanted to bring back that idea and method of socializing that was popular before the electronic age.
The weather was perfect for once and the members of the Hub City Cruisers car club who came out with their beautiful cars made the event very special. A very big thank you to them and their cars.

Thank you also to others in the community who got in their cars to relive a bit of history “Cutting the Square.” Everything together made the event very special. It was such fun we’re considering doing it again next year. What do you think?
Thanks also to the city for their cooperation. Jenny Thompson was very helpful.
And thank you to all who shared your “cutting the square” experiences. We were able to determine that teenagers were “cutting the square” as late as 2001. Did anyone out there participate later than 2001? Let us know.
Thank you, all. The Flagg Township Museum is grateful for your support and for those who attended, we hope you had a good time.
