ROCHELLE — The arrival of a baby is a time of joy but it can also be daunting with so many questions from nursing and financial woes to childcare options and everything in between.

The Rochelle Area Women’s Connection wants to help area moms and moms-to-be with information and inspiration.

The group is hosting a community baby shower themed event, “Operation Baby Blessing,” on Friday, June 8 at the Presbyterian Church Social Hall from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Finger foods and cupcakes will be served and free child care is available at no charge.

Women of all ages are encouraged to attend the event, which includes a free raffle for a high chair, bouncy chair, and a Pack-N-Play.

“This inspiring event is designed to ‘give’ to young moms,” said Theresa Crystal, RAWC member. “We’re inviting all women to give to others by bringing a package of any sized diaper, baby wipes, and a baby bib to give away to a mom in attendance.”

There will be several information booths from agencies such as WIC, Four C’s, Happy Babies, and We Care Pregnancy Center. Crystal explained there will also be a lactation specialist on hand to offer support and information as well as advice to moms.

“We will also have a panel of women who have experienced single motherhood to be available for support and to answer questions,” Crystal said.

Special guest and inspirational speaker Alana Bergeson will share her story about the struggles she endured through infertility and miscarriage and now as a young mom who treasures precious moments with her two children.

For those interested in attending, please RSVP to Susan at 815-501-9097 or say “Yes” to the Facebook event. The cover fee is $5 but is free to any expectant mom or with a child 1 year of age or younger.
