Museum hosting Veterans Cemetery Walk May 26

Floyd Tilton, who served in the Spanish-American War, will be included in the Flagg Township Museum’s Veterans Cemetery Walk.

ROCHELLE – In honor of Memorial Day, the Flagg Township Museum will host a Veterans Cemetery Walk on Thursday, May 26 at 7 p.m. both virtually and at the museum. Our presenter, Sally Sawicki, has researched the history of many Rochelle veterans and will be presenting a PowerPoint program in the museum. Visitors are welcome to attend at the museum or via Zoom.

Included in the Veterans Cemetery Walk are the soldiers from the Civil War’s Company A of the Second Illinois Cavalry, along with veterans who served in the Spanish-American War, World War I and World War II. There’s also the story of a German soldier during World War II. Some contributed much to the history of Rochelle, others were here only a short time. The “walk” is an opportunity to remind everyone that all were important in maintaining our freedom, important to their families and were influential in one way or another to our community.

Participants can attend either virtually via Zoom or at the museum. Refreshments will be available at the museum. The Zoom link can be found on the museum’s website,

The mission of the Flagg Township Historical Society and Museum is to stimulate interest in Flagg Township history through education, research, collection and preservation of information for the benefit of the public of today and in the future.
