The Rochelle Little League 12U Baseball All-Stars concluded their postseason run at the Illinois Little League Moline Sectional Championship tournament this past weekend. Rochelle (1-2) opened the tournament with a 5-4 loss against Oglesby on Thursday before beating Moline 11-5 on Friday. Rochelle faced Oglesby again on Saturday, falling 3-2.

Rochelle compiles 1-2 record with victory over Moline

MOLINE — The Rochelle Little League 12U Baseball All-Stars concluded their postseason run at the Illinois Little League Moline Sectional Championship tournament this past weekend. Rochelle (1-2) opened the tournament with a 5-4 loss against Oglesby on Thursday before beating Moline 11-5 on Friday. Rochelle faced Oglesby again on Saturday, falling 3-2.

Thursday

Rochelle took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning after Andrew Eyster reached on an error and scored on a wild pitch. Rochelle added to its lead in the top of the fourth inning, scoring twice to go ahead 3-0. Angel Argueta drilled an RBI single to right field that scored Bobby Tourdot and made it 2-0. Andrew Huerta then plated Luke Dickey with an RBI groundout.

Oglesby tied the game at 3-3 with three runs on one double and a fielder’s choice grounder in the bottom of the fifth inning. Rochelle inched ahead in the top of the sixth inning, scoring one run after Alex Dyer reached on an error and scored on a double-play grounder by Argueta. Oglesby walked off the win with a two-RBI single to center in the bottom of the sixth inning. Warren Schweitzer started on the mound, throwing four innings and striking out six batters.

Friday

Trailing 1-0, Rochelle exploded for six runs in the bottom of the first inning against Moline. Andrew Eyster tied the game at 1-1 with an RBI single to score Jonathan Andrist before Tyler Gensler put Rochelle ahead 2-1 with an RBI single that plated Bobby Tourdot. Angel Argueta followed with a two-RBI single, bringing Eyster and Trenton Cunningham home. Two batters later, Connor Hunley reached on an error to score Argueta and Andrew Huerta.

Eyster belted a three-run homer for Rochelle in the bottom of the second inning to give Rochelle a 9-1 lead. Luke Dickey’s RBI groundout later in the frame scored Gensler to make it a 10-1 game. Moline earned one run back in the top of the third inning, but Eyster drove another run in during the bottom of the fourth inning, where he crushed a solo home run to put Rochelle up 11-2. Moline scored three runs on two doubles and a groundout in the top of the fifth inning.

Hunley threw two and two-thirds innings and recorded four strikeouts for Rochelle, while Alex Dyer tossed two innings and added three strikeouts. Huerta closed the victory out with two strikeouts over the final one and one-third innings to keep Rochelle in the tournament.

Saturday

Oglesby took the early 1-0 lead, scoring one run on two singles and a double-play grounder in the bottom of the first inning. After Bobby Tourdot singled and scored on a passed ball, Tyler Gensler delivered a clutch RBI single in the top of the fourth inning, scoring Andrew Eyster to give Rochelle a 2-1 advantage. Oglesby stunned Rochelle in the bottom of the sixth inning, scoring two runs on three singles, one walk and one error.
