The Rochelle Little League 11U Baseball All-Stars battled in the Peru Sub-State tournament over the weekend, finishing 1-1 with an 8-0 victory over Ottawa on Saturday and a 5-4 loss against Bartlett-Hanover Park on Sunday. Rochelle will advance to the Illinois Little League State Championship tournament in Moline beginning Saturday, July 24.

PERU — The Rochelle Little League 11U Baseball All-Stars battled in the Peru Sub-State tournament over the weekend, finishing 1-1 with an 8-0 victory over Ottawa on Saturday and a 5-4 loss against Bartlett-Hanover Park on Sunday. Rochelle will advance to the Illinois Little League State Championship tournament in Moline beginning Saturday, July 24.

Ottawa

Holden Liebhaber tossed a complete game for Rochelle, striking out three batters and allowing only two hits in six innings. Luke Chadwick went 2-for-3 with one triple and two runs scored to lead the Rochelle offense, while Brayden Harley singled and recorded one RBI. Elijah Schweitzer doubled and totaled one RBI. Liebhaber, Dayton Mellor and John Williams each had one RBI.

Rochelle took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning after Williams drew a bases-loaded walk to score Liebhaber. Schweitzer’s RBI double plated Luke Chadwick in the bottom of the third inning, putting Rochelle ahead 2-0 before Liebhaber’s RBI single scored Schweitzer.

Leading 3-0, Rochelle added five runs in the bottom of the fourth inning. With the bases loaded, Williams scored on a passed ball before Harley’s RBI groundout scored Bo Lundquist, who singled earlier in the frame. Luke Chadwick scored on a passed ball to make it a 6-0 game before Mellor plated Mikey Chadwick with an RBI single and Jace Spears stole home plate.

B-HP

Holden Liebhaber threw the first two innings for Rochelle, striking out four batters and allowing one hit and zero runs. Elijah Schweitzer struck out four batters in two innings of relief before Luke Chadwick pitched the final two innings, striking out six batters. Chadwick doubled, singled and totaled one RBI on offense, while Dayton Mellor and Korbin Milos each recorded one RBI.

Bartlett-Hanover Park went ahead 1-0 with one run on one walk and one single in the top of the third inning. Rochelle fell behind 2-0 in the top of the fourth inning after Bartlett-Hanover Park drew a walk and scored on an error. Back-to-back fielder’s choice grounders from Mellor and Milos plated Schweitzer and Liebhaber to tie the game 2-2 in the bottom of the fourth inning.

Luke Chadwick doubled and scored on an error to give Rochelle a 3-2 lead in the bottom of the fifth inning. Bartlett-Hanover Park rallied for three runs in the top of the sixth inning, though, putting Rochelle behind 5-3 entering the bottom of the sixth inning. Aidan Lopez reached on a hit-by-pitch and scored on Luke Chadwick’s RBI single, but a groundout ended the frame.
