The Rochelle Little League 10U Softball All-Stars cruised over Rock Falls in the first round of the Illinois Little League District 19 Championship tournament on Tuesday. Rochelle crushed Rock Falls 24-4 and advanced to the semifinal round.

Behrens throws one-hitter as Rochelle wins 24-4 in District 19 tourney opener

FREEPORT — The Rochelle Little League 10U Softball All-Stars cruised over Rock Falls in the first round of the Illinois Little League District 19 Championship tournament on Tuesday. Rochelle crushed Rock Falls 24-4 and advanced to the semifinal round.

Ella Behrens tossed a one-hitter for Rochelle, striking out seven batters over three innings. Chloe Escatel went 2-for-2 with two singles, two RBIs and three runs scored, while Mya Martinez also went 2-for-2 with two singles, two RBIs and two runs scored. Ariana Hueramo went 2-for-2 with one double, one single, two RBIs and three runs scored in the victory.

Rochelle scored eight runs in the top of the first inning to take an 8-0 lead. Four players scored on passed balls including Braley McGee, Ariana Hueramo, Clara Millard and Martinez. Jamie Riddell drew a bases-loaded walk to score Escatel, making it a 5-0 game before Riddell scored on an error. Isadora Hueramo and McGee scored on passed balls to extend Rochelle’s lead.

Rock Falls earned two runs back in the top of the second inning, but Rochelle blew the game wide open with 16 runs in the bottom of the second inning. Martinez slapped an RBI single to score Amada Ortiz, while Elise Hardcastle and Isadora Hueramo drew bases-loaded walks to give Rochelle an 11-2 lead. McGee then drew another bases-loaded walk before Ariana Hueramo’s RBI single plated Hardcastle. Millard drew a bases-loaded walk to make it 14-2.

An RBI single from Martinez and a two-RBI single from Escatel brought McGee, Ariana Hueramo and Millard home to put Rochelle up 17-2. Behrens smacked a two-RBI single to score Martinez and Escatel, giving Rochelle a 19-2 lead before Delani McGee and Behrens boh scored on errors. Isadora Hueramo’s RBI single plated Misha Krawcewicz to make it 22-2. 

After Isadora Hueramo scored on an error, Ariana Hueramo doubled and scored for Rochelle. Rock Falls scratched two runs in the top of the third inning before the game ended.
