Ansteth tosses one-hitter as Rochelle wins tournament opener 15-0

ROCHELLE — The Rochelle Little League 10U Baseball All-Stars dominated Sterling 15-0 on Monday to open the Illinois Little League District 19 Championship tournament. Rochelle will advance and face Rock Falls for a spot in the championship game this weekend.

Quentin Ansteth threw a three-inning shutout against Sterling on Monday, allowing only one hit with eight strikeouts. Ansteth went 3-for-3 at the plate with three doubles and four RBIs to lead the Rochelle offense. Teddy Millard finished 3-for-3 with three singles and one RBI, while Jasper Macklin and Maddex Jackson each recorded two RBIs. Bentley Svela singled twice in the win.

Rochelle took a 4-0 lead with four runs in the bottom of the first inning. Millard singled and scored on an RBI single from Svela, who then scored on a passed ball. Ansteth doubled and Vaughn Manning drew a one-out walk before both players scored on passed balls.

Rochelle blew the game open with seven runs in the bottom of the second inning to go ahead 11-0. Jackson brought Jaxon Quinonez and Millard home with a two-run double to left before Ansteth followed with a two-run double of his own to score Jackson and Svela. Manning plated Ansteth on a sacrifice fly, putting Rochelle ahead 9-0 before Macklin slapped a two-run single that scored Nolan Zick and Steel Manning, who both reached base with singles.

Rochelle closed out the victory with four runs in the bottom of the third inning. Ansteth’s third double of the game plated Millard and Svela, giving Rochelle a 13-0 lead before Ansteth scored on a passed ball. Carson Smith drew a two-out walk, while Kamden Kessen and Gio Cervantes each hit singles to load the bases for Millard, who notched an RBI single to end the game.
