STERLING — The Rochelle Little League 10-12 Baseball All-Stars advanced to the finals of the Illinois Little League District 19 Championship after defeating Sterling by a score of 10-3 on Tuesday. Ethan Goodwin threw four perfect innings with nine strikeouts to start the game, with Brandyn Metzger striking out four batters in one and one-third innings to close the game.
Brode Metzger reached on an error and scored on a passed ball to give Rochelle a 1-0 lead in the second inning. Kaiden Morris delivered an RBI single to plate Goodwin and put Rochelle up 2-0 in the third inning.
Rochelle cracked the game open with six runs in the top of the fifth inning. Brode Metzger brought Goodwin home with an RBI single before Morris reached on a hit-by-pitch and scored on an outfield error. Brandyn Metzger doubled to left and scored Brode to give Rochelle a 5-0 advantage. Eli Koonce reached on an error to score Brandyn, and Grant Gensler sent an RBI single through the middle that plated Koonce.
Leading 7-0, Breydan Andrews hit an RBI single to left and scored Gensler. Sterling scored all three of its runs on two walks, one wild pitch and one double in the bottom of the fifth. Rochelle’s final two runs came in the top of the sixth inning, when Elijah Harley doubled and scored on Brode Metzger’s RBI single. Gensler’s second RBI single of the game plated Metzger.
