AMBOY — John W. Eckhardt, Jr., 82, of Amboy, died Monday, Dec. 25, 2017, in his home. He was born June 1, 1935, in Rochelle, the son of John and Ethel (Coy) Eckhardt.
He had worked at Rochelle Printing Co. for 29 years, as well as for the City of Amboy for 12 years prior to his retirement.
John was a Veteran of the Navy, and a Union Steward for AFSCME. He was an avid archer, bowler, fisherman, and collector of Arrowheads.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Survivors include his children, John (Debra) Eckhardt of Dixon, Jeff (Rayetta) Eckhardt of Franklin Grove, and Christopher Eckhardt of Dixon; nine grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Robert Eckhardt of Rochelle and Richard Eckhardt of Spokane, Wash.
Cremation rites have been accorded. Memorial services will be held at a later date. A memorial has been established to ARC of Lee County.
