ROCHELLE — Rochelle Township High School hosted the 42nd Annual Hub Relays on Thursday, with the purple and white scoring 56 points to place sixth out of seven schools. Hononegah finished first with 145 points, while Dixon took second with 120 points.
Junior Mason DeLille finished first in the triple jump with a leap of 39-5 ¼ while freshman Trevor Goodwin placed seventh (37-5). Senior Bazil Bennett took third place in the discus with a throw of 128-8, and Bennett finished fourth in the shot put (44-4) with senior Zach Miller taking eighth place (40-6 ½).
Sophomore Aaron Vondergathen finished in a three-way tie for seventh place with a clearance of 9 feet in the pole vault, and junior Logan Lidren placed 10th at 8 feet. DeLille tied for seventh place in the high jump (5-4) with sophomore Ben Hickey and freshman Dominic Williams tying for ninth place at 5-2. DeLille placed eighth in the long jump (17-11 ¼).
Rochelle’s 400-meter relay team of junior Eddie Villalobos, junior Greg Ricketts, junior Noah Knight and senior Austin Tracey took third place with a time of 46.23 seconds. The Hubs finished fourth in the 440-meter shuttle hurdle relay with a time of 1:23.91 behind junior Ryan Friestad, Lidren, Goodwin and sophomore Jacob Eul. Rochelle’s fresh-soph 800-meter relay team placed fifth with a time of 1:47.71.
The Hubs finished fifth in the varsity 800-meter relay, with Villalobos, Ricketts, Knight and junior Alex Louck clocking in at 1:38.41. Rochelle took third place in the 1600-meter sprint medley relay behind Tracey, senior Ben Pflipsen, sophomore Evan Horner and junior Connor Lenkaitis, who combined to finish with a time of 4:09.28.
Sophomore Gyvanziel Quinonez took third place in the 3200-meter run with a time of 10:43.14 and sophomore Santi Cordoba finished seventh with a time of 11:09.75. Eul led Rochelle in the 300-meter hurdles, placing 11th with a time of 51.81 while Lidren placed 12th with a time of 56.18.
Rochelle’s fresh-soph 1600-meter relay team took third place with a time of 3:52.59, and the Hubs finished fourth in the varsity 1600-meter relay behind Ricketts, Tracey, Knight and Villalobos who teamed up to clock in at 3:45.09.
